December 2014

Over 500 Attendees at the AdvancED Georgia Fall Conference

Many thanks to those of you who were able to attend our seventh annual AdvancED Georgia Fall Conference on November 3-4.  It was great to see so many educators gathered to network and engage in activities designed to explore ways to customize and personalize learning experiences for all our students.  Keynoters, Dave Weber and Georgia’s 2015 Teacher of the Year, Amanda Miliner, provided inspiring messages with stimulating ideas and engaging activities.  We also were honored to recognize Paul Reviere as the Excellence in Education Winner for AdvancED Georgia.  Additionally, numerous breakout sessions were presented by our colleagues from around our state who shared strategies regarding school improvement endeavors.  We are extremely grateful for those who presented and their commitment to continuous school improvement.  It is my hope that the conference experience was rewarding and will impact what you do each and every day. You truly do make a difference!  Our AdvancED Georgia office expresses a profound thank you for the work you do.  We remain dedicated to providing you quality, personal service.

May your holidays be filled with much joy and happiness!

Benchmark Data for External Reviews
Beginning in the 2013-14 school year, AdvancED introduced a new framework to describe the results of an accreditation review. Did you know that External Review Reports now provide benchmark data too?

Last year AdvancED introduced the Index of Education Quality™ (IEQ™), a formative measure for placement on a continuum of performance, pinpointing areas of success as well as areas in need of improvement. The IEQ™ is comprised of three domains of performance: 1) the impact of teaching and learning on student performance; 2) the capacity of leadership to guide the institution toward the achievement of its vision and strategic priorities; and 3) the use of resources to support and optimize learning. The Index of Education Quality provides a holistic measure of overall performance. By basing the score on data aggregated from each AdvancED Standard and diagnostic results from student, parent and staff/teacher surveys, the IEQ provides a benchmark to assess and guide future decisions. Institutions hosting an External Review now receive an IEQ score when they are accredited.

Additionally, in the fall of 2014, AdvancED began providing benchmark data for each Indicator and for each component of the Evaluative Criteria in the External Review Report. These benchmark data represent the overall averages across the entire AdvancED Network. The AdvancED Network average provides an extraordinary opportunity for institutions to understand their context on a global scale rather than simply compared to a state, region or country. It is important to understand that the AdvancED Network averages are provided primarily to serve as a tool for continuous improvement and not as a measure of quality in and of itself. Benchmark data, when wisely employed, have a unique capacity to help institutions identify and leverage their strengths and areas of improvement to significantly impact student learning.

Together, the IEQ™ and the AdvancED Network benchmark data provide a powerful framework that recognizes and supports the journey of continuous improvement. Institutions can use both as the starting point for continuous improvement.
Real Time Learning, Real Time Impact
Educators from around the world rate their service on an External Review Team as one of the most powerful professional development experiences in their careers. We invite you to engage in real time learning and make a real time impact by serving on an External Review Team. Past team members have found the experience to be both rewarding and inspiring. The time commitment varies based on whether you serve on an External Review for a school or school system. Whichever review you serve on, your expertise and knowledge will be invaluable. You also can use this experience as an opportunity to prepare for your school’s review. To assist you with gaining insight from and giving the most to the External Review, trained Lead Evaluators are assigned to each review to assist, support and coach the team throughout the process.
