News to Know

We are excited about the new leadership at the AdvancED Michigan Operations Office and look forward to our continued partnership to support all schools in Michigan!

Dr. Fiona Hinds is the new Director of AdvancED Michigan. She served as the Associate Director for the past seven years and has been a great supporter of the AdvancED and Michigan Department of Education (MDE) partnership and implementation of the AdvancED Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools (ASSIST™). Previously she was a teacher, curriculum leader and Principal at the K – 12 levels in the Detroit area. Dr. Hinds is looking forward to a great year as we continue to provide increasingly outstanding school improvement tools for schools and educational opportunities for all students throughout Michigan.

Beth Zito is the new AdvancED Michigan Associate Director. Previously she was the Director of Student Services, Curriculum and Federal Programs at Goodrich Area Schools. She has experience working in higher education and has been a teacher and Principal at the elementary and middle school levels prior to her role at the district level.

Education Entity Master

Schools that have new administrators for the 2015-2016 school year, need to ensure that the Education Entity Master (EEM) is updated. Administrator names are updated in ASSIST via the EEM.

Join the Michigan Department of Education for the annual Fall Conference. This year the producers of First Generation will be joining the conference to further the discussion of addressing effective practices educators can use to support our theme, The Faces of School Improvement. In addition to students from the documentary, we also will be featuring Michigan students, as well as practitioners, who will be sharing their stories in breakout sessions. The conference will be held at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan. If you are interested in submitting a request for a presentation proposal, please visit the MIEM website
