The Montana State University Educational Leadership Department recently announced their commitment to teaching their administrative interns the value of regional accreditation, while improving school evaluation skills, by incorporating attendance at the annual AdvancED Montana Conference and service on an AdvancED External Review Team into MSU's principal and superintendent preparation curricula. This is an exciting new development and will provide information about the AdvancED Accreditation Process to over 50 interns during the 2014-15 school year. Montana State University has been a partner with AdvancED Montana through their involvement in the annual AdvancED conference held in September in Bozeman. Join me in thanking Montana State for their commitment in continued school improvement by this recent development.

Montana Schools Complete External Reviews
|
|
History was made this spring as the first five Montana Schools completed an External Review using the AdvancED Standards and Indicators, Student Performance Diagnostics, and Stakeholder Feedback data. Beaverhead County High School, Arlee High School, Intermountain, Sidney High School and Trapper Creek Job Corps all completed the two-day review and were recommended for accreditation by the External Review Team as well as the AdvancED Montana Council. We congratulate you on your efforts and commitment to school improvement.

Jay Eslick selected for AdvancED Award
|
|
Jay Eslick, Superintendent of the Chinook Public Schools was named the AdvancED Excellence in Education award recipient for 2013-14 by the AdvancED Montana Council. Jay was nominated for this award for his service and commitment to school improvement and his service to the Northwest Accreditation Commission as past state committee president and also as past president for NWAC. Jay also is one of the longest serving Montana superintendents (in one district). This longevity reflects his dedication to school improvement. Jay will be presented this award at the Fall AdvancED Montana School Improvement Conference that will be held on September 22 and 23 at the Bozeman Holiday Inn. Congratulations Jay!!

AdvancED Montana Fall Conference
|
The third Annual AdvancED Montana School Improvement Conference will be held on September 22 and 23 at the Bozeman Holiday Inn in Bozeman. This conference will provide important information for schools on how to increase student achievement in their schools and school systems. We encourage schools to bring teams of administrators and teachers to the conference. OPI renewal credit will be granted for all attendees. More information regarding the conference will be coming in the next month.

Montana Board of Education Grants Variance
|
|
Seven Montana AdvancED accredited schools received an official variance to use the AdvancED school improvement process instead of the process required by the state. This variance now reduces duplication of efforts for these schools. AdvancED Montana is continuing to work with the Montana Office of Public Instruction to find additional ways to find alignment between the two accreditation processes.
