AFP-HR Vision Statement

To be recognized as the premier fundraising resource for professionals to learn, collaborate and grow together for a vibrant Hampton Roads community.

President's Letter
Harrison_Laurie-EVMS 1

Happy Spring! I know you are as excited as I am that we can leave behind cold, short days and enjoy this season of rejuvenation and sunshine!

Recently, our chapter was 1 of 37 chapters to be awarded the Ten Star Gold Award for outstanding achievements and dedication to increasing professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of philanthropy. And we were 1 of 82 chapters to receive the Friends of Diversity Designation for our efforts to increase inclusion by embracing and engaging diverse individuals and organizations within the fundraising profession. Thank you to our past and current board members for working so hard to achieve these awards for our chapter.

Please join us on April 12 for our Spring Social which promises to be a fun networking event and on April 17 when we will learn more about Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (I.D.E.A.). AFP is committed to developing and maintaining a diverse organization that reflects and embraces the diversity of the communities we serve throughout Hampton Roads and we look forward to Synetheia Newby’s presentation.

Mark your calendar for our National Philanthropy Day Celebration on November 28, 2018! We encourage you to collaborate with other AFP members to nominate a deserving philanthropic leader in Hampton Roads. Special thank you to our Presenting Sponsor: The Curtis Group. Since 1989, The Curtis Group has been providing nonprofits across all sectors with fundraising, development and nonprofit management consulting services. We appreciate their continued support of AFP-HR and our National Philanthropy Day Celebration!

Get the most out of your membership by taking advantage of the opportunities we have listed in our newsletter: support the Be the Cause campaign, apply for a VFRI scholarship, and sign up to have your headshot taken!

Thank you for all you do to make Hampton Roads a better place to live , work and play!

Laurie Harrison
2018 President, AFP-HR

13. BE the CAUSE Logo - No Bar

Each and every day, the important work you do demonstrates that you are a leader in effecting change in our community, making it a much better place for all of us. These three words—Empower, Strengthen, Transform—describe WHAT you do as a fundraiser and WHY you do it.

When you give to the BE the CAUSE Campaign, benefiting both our chapter and the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy, you are investing in the future of our profession and advancing philanthropy for the greater good.

Once again, BLACKBAUD has agreed to partner with the AFP Foundation for the "Good Takeover Challenge". Blackbaud will provide a $10 match per donor between April 15-17. You can go online to afpfoundation.org/bethecause and give during that time frame and the additional $10 will come back to our local chapter!
