AdvancED Illinois is honored to nominate Mr. Jason Leahy for the 2012 AdvancED Excellence in Education Award. Mr. Leahy is the Executive Director of the Illinois Principals Association which serves over 4200 educational leaders, including principals, assistant principals, deans and others, throughout the state of Illinois. Through his leadership, he has successfully and effectively promoted the organization’s vision to become a preeminent education advocate and is actively sought for input to help shape educational polices and reform agendas.

Jason is a member of the AdvancED Illinois State Council. He consistently goes “above and beyond” to support the work of the state office and provide service to schools. In statewide leadership roles, Jason visibly demonstrates his belief in fostering collaboration, embracing collegiality, and sharing expertise. Prior to serving as IPA’s Executive Director, Mr. Leahy taught chemistry and physics at Tremont High School (Tremont, IL), served as Principal of Illini Central High School (Mason City, IL), and most recently was the Principal of the nationally recognized Highland High School (Highland, IL). He earned his B.S. in Chemistry Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, M.S. in Educational Administration from Illinois State University, and Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Western Illinois University.

Jason is an innovative volunteer, visionary leader, and distinguished educator. He is an invaluable asset to our state’s teaching and learning community. His nomination is advanced to our regional office where he joins his fellow nominees drawn from a pool of distinguished international education professionals. From all nominees, two will be chosen as the AdvancED Excellence in Education award recipients and recognized at the AdvancED International Summit 2012 scheduled in June. AdvancED Illinois will recognize and present Mr. Leahy with his Illinois award at its Fall Conference in Champaign in September. Please join us in congratulating Jason on this distinguished achievement!
