Welcome to our new staff members

We have almost filled all the positions that came as part of the rebuild of the Department following the name change in January. We are very pleased to welcome more new members of staff to BSI since the last edition of BSI Connections.

Professor Dian Tjondronegoro joined us at the beginning of July as the Deputy Head of School and Director of Research. He joins us from Southern Cross University where he was a Professor of IT. Dian has a passion for research and is planning several initiatives to invigorate BSI’s research capabilities and refresh our research profile.

With his IT background, Dian is interested in digital innovation and its relevance to business graduates as they move into a fast moving digital business world. Dian is based at the Gold Coast.

More recently, we welcomed Dr Lili Mi to the Department on the Nathan campus. Lili has recently finished her PhD at Massey University in NZ and joins us as a teaching intensive academic with an interest in strategy and management. Lili will be teaching into several courses both online and on campus.

Enhancing the intercultural business capabilities of women entrepreneurs from India

India is the fastest growing start-up ecosystem in the world, yet the presence of women within this space is very limited. A study by Mastercard Index of Women Entrepreneurs (MIWE) has ranked India 52nd out of 57 countries judged on the basis of parity for women entrepreneurs. According to the Sixth Economic Census by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO), only 14% of businesses in India are run by women domiciled in the country. Further, of the 58.5 million businesses in India, only 8.05 million are managed by women entrepreneurs. Find out more...

Taxing global profits: A 'back to the future' reform

However, multinational and increasingly digital business models beg the question: What is national taxable income? Find out more...

Innovation and profit motivations for social entrepreneurship

Social impact, profit, and innovation have been called the “three pillars” of social entrepreneurship, but the research literature focuses mainly on the entrepreneur’s attitude to achieving social impact. Very little research has been undertaken to understand the innovation and profit motivations for social entrepreneurship. Professor Evan Douglas from the Department of Business Strategy and Innovation has explored the importance of these three elements as motivators for social entrepreneurship, and identify configurations of motives, self-efficacies, and personal conditions that culminate in social entrepreneurial intention (SEI). Find out more...
