Bilateral Chamber Advisory Board News |
It is with sadness and regret that we share news of the passing of Bilateral Chamber Advisory Board Member, Dr. John Mendelsohn, medical pioneer and President Emeritus of MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Mendelsohn's outreach to the Middle East was instrumental in helping thousands of people from the region access the best cancer care at MDA. The appreciation for that outreach was personified by the $150 million gift announced in 2011 from the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation that funded the namesake building and institute named after the late president of the United Arab Emirates and inaugurated in 2016. The Khalifa Institute for Personalized Cancer Therapy was the brainchild of Mendelsohn who worked in the field of targeted therapy for 30 years.
“Personalized
cancer
therapy holds tremendous promise for the future of cancer care. The
generosity of the Khalifa Foundation enables us
to escalate
progress exponentially and will play a critical role in our
efforts to
employ the most effective cancer treatment for each
individual
patient, every time.”
- Dr. John Mendelsohn, 2016 |
“Our thoughts are with Dr. Mendelsohn's family, loved ones and the entire MD Anderson community as we remember the legacy of our friend", said David L. Phillips, Chairman of the Board, Bilateral Chamber.
