President's Message
to the
Members
|
|
You know for the past couple of months I’ve been trumpeting summer’s arrival, but it seems all we’ve gotten is rain! I hope those of you who have had too much rain have been able to weather the storm (no pun intended) and get through it ok. Finally, it looks like we’re all going to get a break from the rain and dry out for a week or more. FINALLY.
On the WMCA front, things have been quiet at the board level, but the 2017 Conference Committee has been gearing up for the Kalahari next month. We have one final meeting on August 3rd to finalize everything and then it’s off to conference! Just some quick reminders: don’t forget to purchase your conference t-shirt, the President’s Tailgate is included in your registration fee, and there is a block of rooms at the Wintergreen Hotel (across the street or about a 3-minute drive) from the Kalahari.
On Wednesday night of conference, the President’s Tailgate will be held (rain or shine!) and we’re going to have an awesome time with hot dogs, brats, toppings, and all kinds of tailgating games. It will be just like Miller Park (no tailgating at Yankee Stadium!) with friends, food and fun. Best of all, the cost is already included in your conference registration, so no extra payment is required, just mark in your registration that you will be attending so we have the proper headcount for the food! Don’t forget to wear those conference t-shirts, so we can get some great pictures and a big group shot too!
The banquet proves to be one for the history books: celebrating my love for Hawai’i with a real Hawai’ian luau! Aloha wear is suggested and ENCOURAGED so I hope to see everyone in aloha shirts, aloha dresses and ready to celebrate the accomplishments we’ve all made over the past year!
Three more clerks have let us know they have or will be retiring. Congratulations to Kay Blum, Clerk of the Town of Grant; Donna Schut, Clerk for the Village of Walworth, and Anne Donahue, Clerk for the City of Columbus.
Finally, I’ve shared some pictures of me and Dr. Julie this year, but I realized I never shared any of our four-legged fur ball Nala. She’s a Treeing Walker Coonhound Beagle Mix and even though she’s 11 ½ she still acts like a puppy…and is the true boss of the house J. She’s enjoyed her time as “first dog” and loves to give kisses to anyone who will take them!
I can’t thank you enough for this amazing opportunity to serve as your President, and as my term winds down I reflect on the people I’ve met and the places I’ve been. It’s been a truly awesome journey and I’m glad you have been able to be on it with me every step of the way.

Are You Having a
25th Anniversary
This Year? |
|
Is 2017 your 25th year working in the municipal clerk's office? Have you been the Clerk or Deputy for that long? The WMCA wants to celebrate that mile stone with you!
Each year, the WMCA recognizes its members that have been on the job for 25 years. If this is you or you know of a fellow clerk that is having a 25th Anniversary this year, please email the WMCA office at coordinator@wisclerks.org by August 7th. The WMCA wants to recognize you at the Conference in Wisconsin Dells and give you a plaque to commemorate the occasion. If you cannot attend the conference, we will mail your plaque to you after the conference.

LAST CHANCE to Purchase a District T-Shirt and Support the WCEF |
|
|
|
|
You only have a few more days to order your District T-Shirt! The deadline for the orders to be in the WMCA Office is July 31st. Click here to go to the on-line registration. Still not sure if you want one? Maybe President Astrella can convince you -
"Play Ball! These
famous words can be heard at the start of a baseball game, but you might also
hear them before conference this year too!
As you know, the theme for our conference revolves around baseball, and
the 2017 Conference Committee has ¾ sleeve shirts as our shirt this year. The reception to them was so big the WCEF
decided to make the shirts their fundraiser for the year!
When the conference program went out a few weeks ago, an
order form was included for your own personalized shirt, but I wanted to send a
few pictures of my shirt so everyone could get a better idea of what they look
like. They are pretty comfy, and if
you’ve seen me in mine, I like to roll the sleeves up; and they actually STAY
up. You don’t have to order a
personalized shirt, if you’d only like the logo on the front and your
district’s color; go for it!
I hope this helps give you a better idea about WCEF’s
fundraiser, and remember, all the money raised goes right back to scholarships
for further clerk education, our mission.
Make sure to wear your shirt at the President’s Tailgate on the
Wednesday night of Conference, we’re going to get tons of pictures!
***It should be noted, only district numbers are being used
for these shirts, and they won’t have “conference committee” on them like mine
does, only the regular logo!
Thanks and if you have any questions please ask! Enjoy summer!"
Chris

Electronic Election
Regarding
a New Resolution |
|
The electronic election to vote on the resolution to the WMCA Constitution is still open. It will close on August 9th. There was the original email from Survey Monkey opening the election and there has been one reminder sent out. If you haven't voted yet, please watch for one last reminder on Monday. Only 419 out of the eligible 1,241 Active members have voted.
If you click on the ballot in the reminder email, it will take you into a full page explanation of what you are voted on or read all about it here:
In January 2017, a request for a Constitutional amendment was submitted to the Board of Directors.
Our current Constitution allows for participation in meetings via telephone, but at the discretion of the President. Based on who is president, this could prohibit WMCA elected directors and officers from participating when they are unable to attend meetings in person.
With the ever increasing responsibilities in our offices, weather conditions, or many other factors, it may not always be possible to physically attend a scheduled meeting. That said, I respectfully ask for your support in approving this Constitutional amendment as it will provide for greater participation from Board of Directors who volunteer to serve you.
Karen Weinschrott, WCPC/CMC
2016/2017 Manuals Chairperson
Please read over the following resolution and be prepared to vote Yes-to approve or No-to reject the amendment:
