5 September 2013

This 9th issue of the National Housing Conference e-update provides the latest news and announcements for those of you who are joining us in Adelaide as well as for anyone yet to register. Read on to find out why you need to part of the conversation in Adelaide this October.

Close of standard registration—30 September

If you are yet to officially register, we urge you to do so before the end of September and save nearly 20%. Registration fees will increase next month so register now to secure your place at this important event.

Conference app released

For the first time ever, the National Housing Conference will have its own conference app—allowing you to have all the important conference materials in the palm of your hand. The app is your key tool for actively participating in the conversation! Download it now to view the conference program, save your favourite sessions and view speaker profiles. More exciting app features will be announced in the coming weeks.

Conference program themes

The overarching theme a new way home is about new ways of solving contemporary housing problems and we have developed six major program themes to allow delegates to further explore particular topics.

  1. DisabilityCare and housing provision
  2. The roles of Government and NFP in housing supply
  3. Economic development and Indigenous communities
  4. Homelessness prevention through mainstream services
  5. Urban renewal and the supply of affordable housing
  6. Housing in the economy

Find out more about these themes by visiting the conference theme page of the official website, or you can download the latest version of our program.

Breakfast event—registrations open

Registrations are now officially open for Affordability through good design—the official breakfast event sponsored by Renewal SA on Friday 1 November. An interactive panel discussion will follow an address by SA Minister for Planning and Urban Development, the Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP. Places are strictly limited so register now to guarantee your seat!

Satellite events

We’d like to remind you about a number of special pre-conference meetings that delegates may like to consider attending on Tuesday 29 October.

  • The Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network (AURIN) are holding a free workshop for anyone interested in learning how to use their extensive data repositories to learn more about cities, neighbourhoods, patterns of urban development and more. Places are strictly limited to 20.

Street soccer tournament

A great conference is more than just the official conference program and that’s why we’re delighted to announce we will be holding The Big Issue Street Soccer Tournament proudly sponsored by Common Ground Adelaide on Wednesday 30 October. This will be a truly unique experience where delegates can participate in short soccer matches alongside The Big Issue vendors. Pack your sneakers and get ready for some much needed fresh air and exercise at the close of day one.

There are less than two months until the conference and we look forward to you joining us in Adelaide to be part of this important national conversation that only takes place once every two years. This conference is for those who seek to make a difference and want to lead the way in creating a new way home for Australia.
