HRMA St. Louis Invited to Participate in Principia's Career Summit
Each year, Principia College in Elsah, IL hosts a Career Summit for its students in order to hone job-search skills. Principia invited HRMA St. Louis to participate in a panel discussion held for the students on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. The following five members served on the panel: Danielle Spieckerman, President of HRMA St. Louis; Mary Ames-Smith, Vice President of Development of HRMA St. Louis; Linda Pipitone, Vice President of Communications of HRMA St. Louis; Kari Eckelkamp, former chair of Workforce Readiness; and Dan DeBoer, current member of the University Relations Committee. Panel members each sat with a group of students during dinner and engaged in discussion about their own aspirations, their questions about job searches, and general expectations for their first job. Following dinner, the panel discussed issues with the group, including the value of networking and keys to success at a first job. The discussion was both lively and informative, and it seemed to be well received by the enthusiastic group of students. It was great to be a part of the event and highlight HRMA St. Louis' dedication and commitment to serving the community.

Why Do You Love HR?
By Molly Marroquin

If you are like me, then there are days you think, "of ALL the options, why did I choose HR again?" It may be after dealing with a difficult employee, having to have a dreaded termination talk or - worse - being handed yet another random project that you're not really sure how it fits into your area of responsibility ("we're not sure who should do this, so here you go!"). And yet, as each day, week, month and year goes by we look back and find something satisfying in our roles. We think about the opportunity we have to make a true impact on the work experience and lives of others. As you reflect back on 2015, I hope you're thinking much more along the lines of "I love HR" than "why HR?". I love HR because it challenges me to be a creative, approachable, empathetic, and discipline problem solver. Here is another person's take on "10 Reasons Why I Love Being an HR Professional." What are your reasons?
