Uber Powerful: The Car Service's Brazen Plan To Become A Robotic Superpower
This past spring, two engineers huddled behind computer monitors as they fine-tuned a robotic ape. The 443-pound simian-inspired machine, called Chimp, would soon be competing in the Pentagon-funded DARPA Robotics Challenge. The competition to build disaster-response robots, which had started three years before, was nearing its final showdown. And Carnegie Mellon University's Chimp was considered a front-runner for the top prize of $2 million.

Armored Natural-Gas Plug-In Hybrid Truck To Hit The Roads
Have you ever thought about the carbon footprint of your money? Everything we use has to be transported from place to place, including the cash in our wallets. And the big, hulking diesel armored trucks that move money around are hardly the most fuel-efficient vehicles. Hoping to temper the all-important emphasis on security with some green thinking, three companies have just unveiled a cleaner alternative to the traditional armored truck

Automakers Form Alliance To Bolster Cybersecurity
WASHINGTON -- By the end of the year, automakers will have a new layer of defense in the fight against would-be car hackers. Through the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of Global Automakers, automakers are working to establish an Information Sharing and Analysis Center to act as a secure, industry-wide clearinghouse for intelligence about cyberthreats to vehicles and their networks. It would also facilitate sharing of best practices for how to safeguard against and respond to threats.

Steering Wheels To Save Your Life In The Connected Car
We've all had it happen. We're driving along a boring stretch of road and start to doze off, and then suddenly realize and shake ourselves awake; or maybe we don't and something horrible happens.Guttersberg Automotive has developed a sensor within the steering wheel that it claims is able to sense that your grip is loosening, a solution to help save lives when drivers enter a state of "microsleep..."

UK To Test Roads That Recharge Cars As They Drive
Electric vehicles (EVs) have a lot going for them, but long charging times are still a barrier to adoption for many consumers. This is understandable—society has been conditioned for the last 100 years to think of a car as something that you can refuel in a few minutes. Even the fastest DC fast chargers still take almost half an hour to recharge an EV. What's more, the laws of physics get involved at some point, limiting the rate at which you can charge a battery before things start to get messy. The answer to impatient drivers needing a recharge may well be special roads that can power up a car on the move, F-Zero style. This week, the UK government announced that it wants to begin testing this tech, and soon.
