You can also earn recertification points by volunteering to fill key chapter roles and by serving on committees.

Chairman's Corner

Greetings!

I hope this finds everyone in the National Capital Chapter region well and enjoying the summer months.

We recently experienced a great turnout for our annual ASIS NCC CPP Exam Review, and on behalf of the NCC Chapter, I offer our best wishes to all those who will be sitting for the prestigious CPP Certification Exam. Best of luck to all who attended.

In addition, the annual ASIS NCC Security Seminar was held in June, which featured sponsors and speakerships with  various topics. It is always our goal to bring the best and latest information on the security subjects relevant to you and your careers.

I know from past communications that many of you will be pleased to learn our Chapter's 2017 PSP Review has been scheduled for three Saturdays in August. The Review course will take place on August 12th, 19th and 26th at the Sprint campus in Reston, Virginia.

Please watch your email for your invitation and reserve your seat early for this much anticipated yearly event.

Please also note the agenda items listed below for the Air Force Security Forces Association Security Seminar, which will be held in conjunction with ASIS International Region 5A, and mark your calendars for one or all three of these informative and educational sessions.

As always, I thank you for your continued dedication to our National Capital Chapter, as the success of our chapter would not be possible without you!

JULY RECAP - NCC Annual Countering Terrorism Luncheon

The NCC was pleased to welcome members and guests to its Annual Countering Terrorism Luncheon on July 12th, 2017 in Fairfax, Virginia.

Following the Call to Order by John Gallagher, Chair, networking and lunch, David Gilmore, CPP introduced our featured guest speaker for the event, John Cooper. Gilmore, who has worked diligently over the years on this annual event is also the Chair of the NCC Terrorist Activities Committee. He once again put together an informative meeting with a first rate speaker.

John Cooper, Chief, Protective Operations at Kiernan Group Holdings has enjoyed a career encompassing 28 years of law enforcement experience as a special Agent, and as an accomplished executive with the Department of Justice - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

His active threat leadership experience
emphasizes prevention and preparation, protecting personnel, mitigating risk to employees and facilities, and leading recovery initiatives after critical incidents occur.

Cooper's experience has also included the development and delivery of the National Leadership and Command Course for critical decision making,
which enhanced the capabilities of both mid-level and first line supervisors through practical and operational table top and full-scale exercises.

Cooper has held a variety of senior decision-making positions as an ATF special Agent, including the Chief – Special Operations Division in Washington, DC. He is a member of ASIS International, as well as the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Robert M. Baggett

Baggett.2

Robert M. Baggett, CPP, PSP, PCI has been a member of ASIS International since January of 2014. He has more than 16 years of law enforcement and security management experience, having managed diverse security program portfolios in three different countries. These experiences afforded Robert a unique perspective of how politics, economics, foreign policy and culture can impact operations.

Robert's law enforcement career began in the year 2000 in Florida, and in 2008 he was hired as a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service and served in Los Angeles, Washington DC, China, Iraq and Vietnam. During his tenure with the State Department, he investigated visa and passport fraud and established the first federal criminal investigations program in Shenyang, China near the North Korean border.

His career also includes assignments at the American Embassy Hanoi, and administering the Regional Security Office's Crisis Management, Counterintelligence and Overseas Security Advisory Council portfolios. In 2016, Robert transferred to the USDA Office of Inspector General and became an Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge in the Western Region Office (Oakland, CA), where he manages a team of USDA-OIG Special Agents charged with investigating fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement of more than 300 USDA programs.

When Robert joined ASIS, he also received and welcomed the opportunity to serve on the Investigations and Leadership and Management Practices Councils. In addition, he was appointed a Vice Chair for the Academic and Training Programs Councils this year, in light of his previous teaching experience in criminal justice and security courses.

Robert said he feels that the value of an ASIS International membership is what one personally invests into it, and ASIS International involvement affords everyone the opportunity "...to take initiative and volunteer to take the profession to the next level."

Robert said the National Capital Chapter is very supportive of its members, and offers a wide array of professional development and networking opportunities within the government and private sectors. He especially credits the NCC annual CPP Review Course as the primary reason for his passing the CPP exam and obtaining the CPP credential. He then earned "Triple Crown" status for also obtaining the PSP and PCI credentials. "For anyone who wishes to enhance their professional profile by obtaining the CPP credential, I fully recommend this chapter's (NCC) preparation course", Robert said.

We look forward to hearing of your future accomplishments Robert!

“Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate, and doubt to offer a solution everybody can understand."

General Colin Powell
