We celebrated the 13th annual Griffith Business School Gala Dinner on Friday 2 November. 500 Griffith Alumni, current students, industry partners, staff and friends of the School joined in celebration of an outstanding year of successful activities and remarkable achievements.

Meet the GBS Outstanding
Entrepreneurial Award Winners
Business graduates Marissa Bowden and Sarah Schoeller took out this year's Outstanding Entrepreneurial Award Winners.
The ladies founded The Village Markets
back in 2008, an iconic boutique market and community
for creative entrepreneurs and are held in Burleigh Heads on the Gold
Coast. A new and additional location is set for launch in December at Stones Corner in
Brisbane.

Student Leaders take the trip of a lifetime
2018 marks the sixth overseas Community Engagement Project for the GBS Student Leadership Program.
The team departed on 20 October for a two week trip to India. During the first week, Leaders enjoyed some amazing sights and experiences including visiting the Taj Mahal and riding a rickshaw through the busy streets of Delhi.
In the second week, the Leaders taught life skill workshops at Neel Kamal Public High School. These workshops in drama, arts and crafts and sports and nutrition, allowed the local Indian students to build confidence and skills that are not included in their school curriculum. Team Griffith shines at CFA Challenge Australian National Finals
 Team
Griffith secured second place at the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
Challenge Australian National Finals held in Sydney, in early October.
The 2018 team of five consisted of Enoch Pun, Eden Peterson, Jake Matthews, Denis Vukovac and Andrea Crespo Wong.
After a grilling by top investment executives, the team nabbed second
place behind University of Sydney. Congratulations to the team on an
outstanding achievement!

Student Investment Fund offering remarkable opportunity
Established in Trimester 1 this year the Student Investment Fund made its very first investment in ASX listed companies in early September. The Student Investment Fund provides outstanding
finance students access to Queensland's largest student managed
investment fund, totalling $250,000. Enrolled students have the chance to analyse,
evaluate and invest in socially responsible, ASX listed companies using
Griffith's Trading Rooms, live data and real money. Find out more.

AIIA Queensland Asia Pacific scholarship winner
Zac Look was recently presented with a
prestigious Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA)
Queensland Asia-Pacific Scholarship which he will use to undertake
exchange studies in Indonesia next year. The
Governor of Queensland His Excellency The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC
presented the award to Zac at Government House. The scholarship is
awarded annually and was established to assist Australian students at
Queensland universities to undertake study in the Asia-Pacific region. Find out more.

 2018 Australasian Peer Leader Awards Winner
Congratulations to Yan (Leanne) Li who has won the Outstanding New Leader Award in the Australasian Peer Leader Awards. These awards recognise outstanding contributions to leaders in Peer Learning programs across the region. Leanne will be formally recognised and awarded at the Australasian PASS and Peer Learning Symposium to be held on Monday 26 November.

 Our students excel at model UN conference
The three Business Government and International Relations students recently travelled to Canberra to
participate in the National Capital Model United Nations (NCMUN)
Conference held at the Australian National University. Brianna Bailey, Liam Jerman and Jaxon
O'Connor were
able to hone their skills in problem-solving, negotiation and public speaking,
all while they were being recognised for the talent they brought to the table. All
three first time participants received a Certificate of Excellence for
the work they did on their respective UN Committees. Well done!

WIL students gain valuable experience at national conference
A group of Tourism, Hotel and Sport Management (THS) Work Integrated Learning (WIL) students, led
by Dr Barry Fraser, supported the National Brain Injury
Conference held at the Princess Alexandra Hospital on 13–14
November. Students had the opportunity to offer event management support. The conference featured international trailblazer in

School-based Orientation Mentor
We are looking for Griffith students to volunteer a few
hours of their time and introduce new students joining Griffith
University in 2019. In this role, you will play an important part in
your school's orientation: running activities to help new students get
to know each other, sharing tips, introducing services, and possibly
getting some free food! Your contribution is greatly appreciated by
Griffith, and could make a huge difference to commencing students' first
trimester. By being an Orientation Mentor you will also gain valuable
work experience in the Higher Education sector that you can add to your

Peer Welcome Mentor
Peer Welcome Mentors operate drop-in sessions at Nathan,
Gold Coast, Mt Gravatt, and Logan campus libraries for four hours a week
between weeks 1 and 3. Their role is to help new students figure out
university essentials (such as navigating Learning@Griffith, accessing
online lectures, and contacting their tutors) and to see how they are
coping with the transition into university life. This position is paid
at HEW 2.1 and offers a valuable chance for mentors to gain excellent
work experience and help their fellow students. Apply here.
