Greetings IFMA Members,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Chapter President for the upcoming year.  It is truly an honor to work with this great association.  This year's theme is "Gear Up"! I am asking all chapter members to take their involvement up a notch. Whether you are on a committee, leading a committee or just attending events, push yourself a little to get more out of your IFMA experience.  IFMA is a great place to learn new concepts and trends as well as network with very knowledgeable people, but you will only get out what you put in.

This year we are "Gearing Up" with some new events and activities, starting in July with a big celebration for National FM Day.  July 13^th at 4 PM we will be hosting a meeting, talking about local development, then celebrating with a social and silent auction to raise funds for the IFMA Foundation.  Our Chapter is partnering with the Foundation to help promote the Facilities Management Profession and how it can be a wonderful career for the next generation.  Also, save the date of August 25^th for our next professional only event. We are going to bring in a panel of experts to educate on how to respond to Active Assailants in the workplace.

We are looking forward to having a wonderful year filled with top notch educational events for all members. However, these events wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors. Presentation will feature Speaker Ken Atkins on Chatham Park Development will open the event at 4:00PM followed by a FM Day Social and Silent Auction.  Ken Atkins will be discussing Chatham Park, which has 22 million square feet of office, research, retail, and community space.  Chatham Park's master plan proposes a regional mixed use center to offer residents and workers every convenience:  shopping, dining, education, recreation, and housing will be integrated into a rewarding urbane place.

The Global Workforce Initiative Silent Auction

In celebration of FM Day we will be hosting a silent auction to benefit IFMA Foundation’s Global Workforce Initiative (GWI) following the monthly meeting on July 13th. The GWI is designed to promote the facility management professional to high school and undeclared college students in order to sustain and grow the facility management profession. This auction is just one way our chapter is support the GWI. Please come ready to bid on these items! Credit card and checks will be accepted.

August Professional Only Event

SAVE THE DATE for the Professional Member Only event on August 25th at The Matthews House, 317 W Chatham St, Cary, NC  27511 from 2:30pm to 6:30pm.  It will feature a panel of experts on Active Assailants followed by a social.

A building occupant has directed a complaint to the CEO about poor ventilation and lighting. The CEO has asked you to respond directly to the occupant by the next business day.  How would you respond and what mode of communication would you use?

A. Have your building mechanic evaluate the ventilation against ASHRAE standards
B. Hire a lighting consultant to take light meter readings
C. Develop a plan to investigate the problems and outline the appropriate steps in a written memo
D. Ask one of your staff members to visit the individual immediately
