2014 MOHEG Student Essay Award (M-SEA) Recap

Missouri is proud to have 6 schools participate with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) in the Higher Education Network (HEN). Students enrolled in HEN institutions are eligible to participate in the annual MOHEG Student Essay Award (M-SEA) completion. The 2014 award recipient was Lindsey Lehman, MHA 2015 graduate of the University of Missouri for her essay, “The Importance of Health Insurance Literacy.” Lindsey’s essay can be found on the MOHEG website http://moheg.ache.org/ . The M-SEA reflects the mutual goals of the ACHE and MOHEG by inspiring professionalism at an early career stage. The main purpose of the M-SEA is to challenge students to develop thoughts about the system of health care delivery in the United States and stimulate the field through publication of essays in MOHEG’s Chapter News. To encourage creativity, the M-SEA 2015 Guidelines specify that essay topics are to be chosen by the entrant. It is a pleasure to now publish the essays that were not chosen for the final award. These essays are all good work by future leaders. The MOHEG Board of Directors compliments the students for their critical thinking and professionalism by contributing to the literature of the healthcare field. The ideas presented are stimulating. We hope you enjoy reading them.

Coincidence or Just Good Planning?

On May 3 the American Hospital Association announced that Richard J. (Rick) Pollack, AHA Executive Vice-President will be promoted to AHA President. He succeeds Richard J. (Rich) Umbdenstock who succeeded Richard J. (Dick) Davidson. Rick Pollack has worked for the AHA for 33 years. This coincidence is therefore nonetheless part of the leadership continuum that has made the AHA the pre-eminent advocacy organization for health care providers in the United States. Please join MOHEG in congratulating Rich and Rick on their many valuable contributions to healthcare!
