About the Position:
Reporting to ACTE Global’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial goals. The Executive Director, with the Board of Directors, develops the vision and direction of the organization. S/he formulates and executes strategies that support the vision and meet the needs of the membership mission. The Executive Director represents the association to the members, media, general public, key industry stakeholders, other associations and government agencies domestically and internationally. The Executive Director will generally lead, engage, cultivate, and open new relationships with major sponsors and other partners, who are central to the mission of ACTE Global.
The Executive Director serves as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the Board and the Executive Committee.
While ACTE Global is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, the Executive Director position requires significant global travel. The candidate must have the legal ability to work in the U.S. ACTE Global will not provide visa sponsorship. The Executive Director will be provided with a competitive salary and benefits package.
Minimum Requirements
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in global corporate travel or a closely related industry
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ global/multi-regional oversight and cross-functional management experience
- Prior experience in a senior leadership position
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
- Work with the Board of Directors to assure that the organization has a long-range strategy and plan which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress
- Provide leadership in developing and implementing programs, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board and ensure that program components are regularly evaluated
Financial Management
- Work with staff, Finance Committee, and the board in preparing an annual budget made up of several initiatives
- Create and manage annual plans that support the associated P&Ls in the board-approved financial plans
- Maintain sound financial practices.
- Grow ACTE Global’s membership by enhancing the general value of “belonging” – including in non-traditional ACTE regions and constituents
- Build new and creative revenue generating programs
- Drive new opportunities for sponsorship revenue – both from within traditional channels/initiatives as well as new, adjacent ones
- Build and maintain relevant long-term strategic alliances and partnerships both outside and within the industry that deliver new revenue and alliance opportunities to ACTE Global
Research & Education Programming
- Oversee, produce, and execute the annual calendar of research projects, education programs and conferences
- Ensure that research and education programming is topical, timely and reflects emerging trends and developments in the corporate travel industry
- Enhance education and networking opportunities globally, balancing innovation with foundational elements of what ACTE Global’s programs provide
Communications, Marketing & Advocacy
- Deepen and refine all aspects of communications – from social media and web presence to external relations and PR with the goal of creating a stronger brand
- Drive a strategic PR and marketing plan that puts ACTE Global and its constituents in the headlines
- In collaboration with the association president, act as the public face, spokesperson, and advocate for the organization and represent the organization at events and other activities to enhance the organizations public profile
Talent Management:
- Create and maintain a high-performance, empowered team who can focus effectively on the Association’s top objectives and initiatives
- Maintain a climate which attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality globally
- Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place
- Analyze, strategize and recommend talent and organization changes required to achieve ACTE Global’s desired results, and work with the board of directors to prioritize and fund
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree with a Master’s degree preferred, with at least 15 years of demonstrated success in fundraising and/or P&L management, leadership, managing large teams, developing membership and partner relationships, marketing, and program development in a diverse cultural environment
- Experience in the global travel industry and/or related industry areas, such as procurement, supply chain management, and meetings
- Proven success executing programs and initiatives based on approved strategic plans, and motivating a team to deliver on and exceed expectations
- Proven track record in the delivery of global education (or similar products/initiatives) via various media such as large scale events, social media, webcasting, and other media and technologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of all aspects of an organization including company general management, finance, human resources, IT, operations, program and policy management
