Dear readers:

Tech economy can’t be ignored during recovery

Before the COVID-19 epidemic sunk its bristly microscopic nodes into the economy, Wisconsin’s tech-based sector was making solid progress in jobs, salaries and contribution to the state domestic product.

As the outlines of a broader recovery plan emerge, state policymakers should be careful not to conclude that tech businesses will simply take care of themselves.

Wisconsin was 15th among the 50 states and the District of Columbia in boosting the size of its tech-based labor force over the past decade, according to a national report. Please read my latest “Inside Wisconsin” column (click here) for more.

Entrepreneurs’ Conference on track for June 4

‘Virtual’ Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference will offer plenty of ways for attendees to engage
‘Siri, did you know your boss will speak June 4 at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference?’

We’ll announce more conference highlights soon, including engaging ways for attendees to network among themselves and presenters. Nothing beats live, but this will come close! Among the features of the conference over time have been the Governor’s Business Plan Contest (see more below) and a presentation by the winner of the Wisconsin Youth Entrepreneurs in Science, or YES!, contest. A full release on the young people advancing in that competition is linked here, as well.

Please stay tuned for more about panel discussions, workshops and special networking activities.

GUEST COLUMN: On Your Mark, Get Set, Maybe Don’t Go?

The Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the statewide Safer at Home orders as invalid and unenforceable, which means some counties and municipalities have implemented their own orders, while some did not.

I am my colleagues are not going to discuss the court’s opinion. There are lots of attorneys who want to do that more than we do. Dissecting the opinion won’t help us or our clients figure out what to do next. Instead, let’s focus on what we know and how to move forward.

The BPC class of 2020: Finalist profiles
