Welcome Back to School and Welcome to AdvancED Idaho!
As we start this school year, there are a lot of great changes on the horizon as to how we will conduct accreditation in Idaho moving forward.  The Board of Trustees and Commission of the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) approved bylaws that establish NWAC as an accreditation division of AdvancED, expanding our capacity and resources to deliver accreditation and school improvement services to you.

With our shared mission to improve the quality of education around the world, we not only build on this tradition, but also our support for schools and school systems that are committed to continuous improvement.  For example, all schools in the AdvancED network, including NWAC schools, will have access to the Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools (ASSIST), a state-of-the-art, web-enabled platform for accreditation and school improvement.  In order to access the many new tools and resources offered by AdvancED, our accredited schools will need to register with AdvancED.  We will be providing training on how to register but if you wanted to get a head start, you can visit www.advanc-ed.org, and click on the Log In link at top of the homepage.  You also can e-mail your AdvancED Idaho Field Consultants with the name and position of the person in your school (preferably the principal) that will be authorized to access your school data. A unique access code will be issued via reply e-mail to your designee along with instructions.

We will continue to accredit under the NWAC name so that your school maintains the brand recognition in our region, while gaining access to a broader network of schools and greater resources.  We are excited about the opportunity that joining AdvancED offers to benefit school systems, schools, and ultimately students through our shared commitment to education quality.  I look forward to sharing more with you over the course of the coming school year, and as we learn together, I want to assure you that our office is here to help.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me at vreynolds@advanc-ed.org.  I also encourage you to visit the AdvancED website to learn more the organization.  More details regarding the AdvancED Accreditation Process also will be available in the coming months.  Welcome back and have a great school year.

Sincerely,

Vikki Reynolds
AdvancED Idaho, Director

Annual Reports
The “traditional” Annual Report will not be required under the new NWAC/AdvancED accreditation process. Schools will be required to complete the registration process, update the Demographics information in the AdvancED Accreditation Management System, and complete the Executive Summary in ASSIST.  Instructions on completing the online Executive Summary will be provided at the Fall Regional Meetings in September. But, if you want a head start, contact your Regional Coordinator. There are four questions in which you will complete a brief narrative. Under “Other Information” you will be asked to address the action on recommendations from your last NWAC Six-Year Visit. Schools will be required to complete the two sections no later than October 10, and they will be reviewed by the State Council at their October 15, 2012 meeting.

Please plan to attend the Regional Fall Accreditation Meeting in your area; dates and locations are listed below. Once again we will be accepting nominations for Exemplary Schools Awards. Please contact Vikki Reynolds at vreynolds@advanc-ed.org for criteria and application information.  The deadline for applications is October 10, 2012.
External Review Schedule
External reviews are the on-site visit required of all NWAC/AdvancED schools every five years. To see the school year scheduled for your review, go to your school link in the Accreditation Management System (using the Access Code referenced earlier). The date for your next review will be listed. You will be contacted by Idaho State staff approximately one year in advance to begin the process. You are encouraged to use the resources and services such as surveys and planning tools throughout your term of accreditation.
