Keynote Speaker, Sheila Alles, Chief Deputy Superintendent from the Michigan Department of Education, will facilitate an expert panel on the true meaning of continuous improvement and how it can positively impact conditions, practices, and processes for teaching and learning.

Teachers, building and district-level administrators, and continuous improvement team members will gain valuable information on the new AdvancED Standards and Protocol, the School and System Quality Factors (SQF), meaningful continuous improvement strategies, closing the achievement gap, and so much more!

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is pleased to announce that Dr. Steve Perry, the principal of Capital Preparatory Magnet School, author, and Education Contributor for CNN and MSNBC, will be our keynote speaker for the Fall School Improvement Conference on November 20, 2017 at the Lansing Center. Dr. Perry’s keynote and breakout session will focus on “Teaching and Engaging Students in Poverty.”
 
On November 21, 2017, Dr. John Almarode, from James Madison University Center for STEM Education Outreach, will present “Teaching Children in Poverty: What Works Best in Teaching and Learning.” Dr. Almarode continues the focus on how to engage students living in poverty that Dr. Eric Jensen shared last fall.
