DHS Blue Campaign |
|
As the unified voice for the US DHS, the Blue Campaign strives to protect the basic right of freedom and bring those who exploit human lives to justice.
Every year, millions of men, women and children are trafficked in countries around the world, including the United States. Human trafficking is believed to be second only to drug trafficking as the most profitable form of transnational crime.
Victims rarely come forward to seek help because of language barriers, fear of the traffickers, and/or fear of law enforcement.
To learn the indicators of human trafficking, please visit the DHS site.

Did you know?
CPPs, PSPs and PCIs can normally earn one (1) point towards recertification by attending monthly chapter meetings where educational sessions and briefings are included?
You can also earn recertification points by volunteering to fill key chapter roles and by serving on committees.

Greetings!
I would like to extend our thanks to Chief Scott Bakka, CPP, ATF
Security and Emergency Programs Division, and all our friends at the ATF for an
informative visit and tour during our March 2017 luncheon.
Due to overwhelming interest, 12 invitees had to be waitlisted for the
event. Please watch for your future NCC invitations and reply as soon as
possible to ensure your seat is reserved!
It is that time of year when our ASIS NCC Scholarship Education Foundation awards
its Annual Chapter Scholarships to qualified selected
students. Assisting students as they continue their education is
especially gratifying for our Chapter members, and something we work toward all
year.
We hope you will join us Thursday
evening April 13th in Fairfax to congratulate and greet the recipients.
There are always opportunities for our membership to serve on various volunteer
committees, so please take a few moments to consider where you might get
involved in continuing our Chapter tradition of excellence.
I look forward to meeting with you at a future NCC meeting/event!
John E. Gallagher

The ASIS National Capital Chapter
Annual Scholarship Night April 13th
|
Each year, our Chapter recognizes the academic achievements of students in security management, administration of justice and programs allied to security at the associate, baccalaureate and graduate levels with cash scholarships. This has been a tradition of the National Capital Chapter since 1983. It is an important opportunity for us, as members of a professional society, to make a contribution to the community beyond our own membership. Please join us as we continue this significant tradition at our Annual Scholarship Night on Thursday, April 13, 2016, from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM.
In addition to the scholarship presentations, we will be joined by Kevin Peterson, CPP, Past Chairman of the Board of The National Partnership for Careers in Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security.
As well as
providing an introduction to The National Partnership, Peterson will talk about
the career pipeline concept, and why it is important in today's world. He will
also address security career paths and the roles of education,
experience and certification.
Peterson is a past Chapter Chairman and a past ASIS Regional Vice President. He is also a member and past Chairman of the ASIS Academic and Training Programs Council, and a Director and Trustee of our NCC Security Education Foundation.
We look forward to seeing you at this very special evening so please mark your calendar and join us!

March Chapter Meeting Recap
|
The March meeting of the ASIS
National Capital Chapter included an informative tour of the US Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Headquarters in Washington DC
for 39 NCC members and guests. The tour incorporated the ATF’s Law Enforcement
Memorial and Headquarters Museum, which profiles the agency’s rich history and
high profile criminal investigations since the agency’s inception.
The ATF headquarters is the first
federal building to implement post-Oklahoma City and 9/11 security blast-resistant
requirements, and was constructed with the strictest security codes. The highly
secure facility is also LEED Silver (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) certified.
A PowerPoint lecture regarding the ATF and its
facility was presented by Chief Scott Bakka, CPP, ATF Security and Emergency
Programs Division (SEPD). Chief Bakka is responsible for the Bureau’s physical
security, emergency management, executive protection and information security
programs.
A question and answer period followed the
presentation and a catered lunch was provided.
