 Gary Adams
Excellence in Education Award Winner Announced
The 2013 Excellence in Education Award winner is Mr. Gary Adams, who was presented the award at the AdvancED Arkansas Fall Conference September 25.

Gary graduated from Arkansas State University. He earned his BSE there in 1973 and a MSE in 1977. The first three years of his career were at Augusta Public Schools in Augusta, Arkansas where he taught grades 4-7 language arts and mathematics. The following two years he was elementary principal at Bearden Public Schools in Bearden, Arkansas. Gary came to West Memphis 35 years ago as the principal at Faulk Elementary School, and for the past 22 years he has been the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education for the West Memphis School District. The 2013-2014 school year will be his 41st year in having an impact on student learning in the state of Arkansas. Gary has served on several state committees on student assessment. Gary Adams currently is trained to be a Lead Evaluator or assistant Lead Evaluator on an AdvancED External Review Team.

Gary stated, “This AdvancED award is the first and probably the most rewarding recognition that I could possibly have received. It is recognition by my peers of the years of effort that I have demonstrated over my educational career. The key to any success that I have accomplished goes to those who have been a part of our team in promoting student success.”

Joyce Craft, AdvancED Arkansas State Council Chair, presented Mr. Adams his award at the AdvancED Arkansas Fall Conference September 25. Mrs. Craft is the Superintendent of the Hot Springs School District.

Are you using ASSIST?
AdvancED was so excited when the first component of ASSIST™ (AdvancED Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools) was launched nearly two years ago. The excitement is still there as our accredited institutions are reaping the benefits of using ASSIST.

Institutions are successfully managing their continuous improvement efforts along with accreditation requirements, because ASSIST successfully merges process, content and technology into a dynamic web-based platform. It supports end-to-end management of both the school improvement and accreditation processes involving all levels of the education system. Since the initial launch, more and more functionality that meets the needs of our accredited institutions has been added.

ASSIST now provides the tools to guide your next internal and external review for accreditation, including Surveys, Student Performance Diagnostic and Stakeholder Feedback Diagnostic tools. In fact, more than two million students, parents and teachers across the United States and around the world have completed AdvancED surveys about the quality of their educational institutions using ASSIST. Institutions also can submit a Self-Assessment, Executive Summary and school improvement plan in ASSIST. ASSIST is the future of school improvement, and we invite you to be a champion for educational excellence and login to ASSIST today!
AdvancED Arkansas Welcomes Dr. Don Love
Dr. Don W. Love recently assumed the role of Associate Director for the AdvancED Arkansas Office. Like many educators, his career aspirations were sparked by a select few teachers and administrators who connected with him during his formative years growing up in Pine Bluff. He began his 40-year career in education as a social studies teacher in the Pine Bluff School District, where his former elementary principal was by then serving as superintendent.  Read more about Don from the News section of the AdvancED Arkansas Web page.
