A Message from the Chapter President, Wendy Glick

Happy Easter! Happy Spring! Last weekend I spent a lot of time outside, enjoying the beauty of everything coming to life. The leaves are bursting forth, flowers are blooming and colorful birds are appearing. Thankfully I don’t suffer from allergies, so I can say that without a doubt, Spring is my favorite time of year – but not necessarily my favorite season! Confused? Let me explain! I’ve always thought of time in seasons. For the Catholic Church, and many other religions, there is the season of Advent, the season of Lent, and the longest season

of all – the season of Ordinary Time. For years, when I was in school and when my children were in school, there was the School Season. Everything that we did was tied to the schedule that school hours demand. Now in my professional life I find myself in a whole new schedule of seasons. There is the Year End Season, the Gala Season, the Spring Appeal Season, the Walk/Run/Golf Tournament Season – the activities of the fundraising professionals creates a set of seasons all its own.

As a fundraising professional the Season of Planning is my favorite. For me that takes place in May and June. As the folks in accounting are creating next year’s fiscal budget, I enjoy creating my fund development plan to support the numbers the accountant types are plugging in to their many Excel spreadsheets. The process is so full of hope and allows me to tap into my creative side, looking for new and innovative ways to invite donors to practice generous acts of philanthropy.
