Norway Student Exchange

Dental Technology students spend a semester with the team at OsloMet

Norway2
Final Year Bachelor of Dental Technology students: Carol Duong, Olivier Mills, Michael Evans and Kate Sheil
This year four Bachelor of Dental Technology final year students are currently on an international exchange with OsloMet in Oslo Norway. It is here where they complete their studies in fixed prosthetics and are placed in external laboratory practices – where the focus is on fixed prosthodontics.

The students spend the semester learning from Adriane Andersen and the team at OsloMet. Adriane visited Griffith last year and was the lead editor of the Fixed Prosthetic MOOC. This MOOC has been integrated in the fixed prosthodontic module in Oslo.

Words from Michael Evans - one of the exchange students: "The student exchange trip to Oslo Norway has been absolutely amazing! Not only have we been able to broaden our skill sets through external lab practices, but everyone has been very accommodating and willing to help in any way. This is definitely a once in a lifetime experience, being able to study and explore the amazing sites and adapt to Norwegian culture!"

In trimester 2 we expect to receive three exchange students from Norway to learn along-side final year dental technology students in Professional Practice 3029DOH; Research Development 3023DOH; and Health Practice Management 3008MSC. The program directors have collaborated successfully on several previous projects leading to 1 MOOC; 1 book chapter; 2 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals and 2 conference presentations. I have no doubt that our collaboration will lead to more positive outcomes in the future.

Success as Surf Ironwoman

Bay Wildin-Sneddan, a DentalTech/DentalPros student enters her First year in the Open Woman Championships

Iron 1
Iron 2

After graduating high school in 2016, Bay moved to the Gold Coast to chase her dreams both inside and outside of competitive sport. She began her studies in the dual program: Bachelor of Dental Technology and Bachelor of Dental Prosthetics and was offered a contract position as an elite Ironwoman at Kurrawa Surf Club.

Over the past few years, she has had the opportunity to travel around Australia and compete in the Ocean 6 Nutri-grain series and World Titles. The experience opened up a new window for her, providing a deeper perspective of professional and elite competition as a surf Ironwoman. Racing in the female open age group this year, she has learnt a lot about persistence and more importantly, what it takes to be the best in the field. From October 2018 to April 2019, she has raced in 13 competitions, ranging from minor interbranch carnivals to high end interstate and international events. Just recently at the ‘Aussie Titles’, she qualified for 5 individual and 4 team finals in her very first year racing up with the more experienced woman in the open age group. After 5 days of back-to-back racing, with over 20 heats, semis and finals spread across her program, she managed to come away with a Gold, Silver and a handful of top 5 results. An outstanding result performace from someone so young racing against such experienced athletes, while also successfully completing her studies at University. Click here for more on Nurti-Grain Ironwoman Series.
