Across America, mayors take the MI pledge
Eric Garcetti
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti signs the pledge.
Recognizing the power of cities to change the landscape of aging, we are asking U.S. mayors to sign the Best Cities for Successful Aging: Mayor's Pledge. So far, more than 60 mayors have signed, committing city planning and resources toward making cities work for an aging population. The pledge makes it clear that older adults should have the opportunity to work for the betterment of cities. They can improve the lives of all generations through volunteer activity and encore careers across the government, nonprofit and private sectors. Next month we will release an update to the Best Cities for Successful Aging Index. See the 2012 index here.

A Hollywood ExitBefore Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation last month that greatly expands funding for the state's film tax credit program, the Institute played a vital role in helping California leaders understand the economic issues at stake. Our report, "A Hollywood Exit: What California Must Do to Remain Competitive in Entertainment—and Keep Jobs," was instrumental in the meetings between our California Center staff and legislators. It provided a data-centered foundation to help policymakers understand how best incentives could be structured to create and keep jobs in the Golden State. Read the full report here.
