 Welcome to the Centre News.
We are delighted to introduce new Centre members Tu Nguyen, Griffith Postdoctoral Fellow, Caitlin Mollica recently appointed lecturer to the School of Government and International Relations (SGIR), and Ferran Martinez i Coma who has taken up a continuing Lecturer position in SGIR.
Recent results from the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) confirm political studies at Griffith University is world class. According to the Shanghai Ranking global ranking of academic subjects in 2018, Griffith is ranked 76-100 in the work in political science, and even higher in public administration (ranked 51-75 in the world) See more details here.

The Role of Satire and Play in Democratic Politics
 Professor John Kane attended the Play, Creativity, and
Imagination Conference (a Yale-National University of Singapore
partnership) held in Singapore. Professor Kane presented a paper on The
Role of Satire and Play in Democratic Politics. The Play, Creativity,
and Imagination conference brought together scholars from around the
world working in the fields of history, phiosophy, political theory,
literature, music, creative writing, theatre, psychiatry, film-making,
neurology, and neuroscience in order to study these themes in an
interdisciplinary setting.

Australian Political Studies Association Conference
CGPP was co-sponsor of the annual Australian Political Studies Association (APSA) conference and the Oceanic Conference on International Studies (OCIS) that will be incorporated into the International Political Science Association (IPSA) 25th World Congress of Political Science held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on 21-25 July, 2018. Centre member Professor A.J. Brown was president of the Australian Political Studies Association and Professor Duncan McDonnell participated in the Presidents Panel.

Populist and Mainstream Parties Workshop
Duncan McDonnell and Annika Werner hosted leading experts
from Australia and around the world at a workshop on Populist and
Mainstream Parties in Brisbane from 18-20 July 2018. The event began
with a Keynote Address by Professor Tim Bale (Queen Mary University
London), entitled 'Playing with fire can get you burnt: conventional
politics and populism'.
The two-day workshop examined the relationships
between populist and mainstream parties in democracies such as
Australia, France, India, the Netherlands, and many more.

National Symposium: Australia's public integrity institutions
Since 2001, Transparency International has conducted
National Integrity System (NIS) assessments of over 100 countries,
including more than 45 countries since a new methodology in 2009.
Professor A.J. Brown leads an Australian Research Council-funded Linkage
Project that conducted the latest National Integrity System assessment.
It involves a team of independent experts including researchers from
Flinders University and the University of Sunshine Coast, and partner
investigators from Transparency International Australia and leading
integrity institutions throughout Australia Interim findings and options
for strengthening the Commonwealth integrity system, will be released
at a national symposium: Australia's public integrity institutions:
strengths, weaknesses, options to be held in Canberra, Tuesday 21 August
2018.
