New Accreditation Protocol Launched
AdvancED recently launched the new AdvancED Accreditation Protocol and new components for the AdvancED Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools (ASSIST). These tools and protocols, coupled with the AdvancED Accreditation Standards launched last fall, mark a new generation of accreditation and school improvement. The new AdvancED Protocol creates a stronger alignment between internal and external diagnostic review, stakeholder feedback, and student performance results. The result is a performance-based accreditation process that provides each institution with a comprehensive analysis to drive continuous improvement.

Additional components of ASSIST also have been released.  In addition to the school improvement planner launched last fall, ASSIST now provides the tools to guide your next internal and external review for accreditation, including Surveys, Student Performance Diagnostic and Stakeholder Feedback Diagnostic tools.

If you will be hosting an External Review (formerly Quality Assurance Review) in 2012-13, you are required to use ASSIST to submit a Self-Assessment, Executive Summary, and Assurances.  As in the past, you will continue to be required to submit a school improvement plan.  ASSIST offers a high quality school improvement planner, or you may submit an existing plan by attaching it in the Assurances section of ASSIST.

Even if you don’t have an External Review scheduled in the coming year, you can begin exploring and using the new offerings. If you have questions about the AdvancED Accreditation Standards, Accreditation Protocol, or ASSIST, click here to contact us.
The AdvancED International Summit 2012
This year’s program, focused on the evolving roles of the institution, teacher, and learner, offered a combination of keynotes, panel discussions, and smaller Disruptive Dialogues, that was overwhelmingly received by Summit attendees. We had a total of 413 registrants including attendees from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Jordan that experienced this year’s Summit format. Through the use of social media and our own “blackboard” technology, attendees were provided (and took advantage of) a myriad of opportunities to keep the conversations going beyond the panel discussions.  Visit our YouTube channel and Facebook page for Summit highlights.
Call for Conference Presenters

Lead Evaluator Training
Be part of an AdvancED External Review team and assist schools with their school improvement efforts by becoming a nationally qualified AdvancED Lead Evaluator (formerly known as Team Chair).  Lead Evaluator training will be held February 24 and February 26, 2013 in conjunction with the AdvancED Virginia Conference at The Williamsburg Hospitality House in Williamsburg.  Anyone desiring to serve as a Lead Evaluator must attend training prior to leading an External Review team. During the Sunday and Tuesday training, participants will have the option of attending the first day of the conference at a special rate. The training will be led by members of the AdvancED Professional Learning team. We encourage building administrators and central office personnel to participate in this tremendous professional development experience that will provide the tools and means to assist with school improvement efforts in neighboring schools and throughout Virginia.  Registration information for the Lead Evaluator training will be e-mailed later in the fall.

Finally, are you interested in serving as a member of an External Review team?  Contact the AdvancED Virginia Office for details on this powerful professional development opportunity!
New Five Standards Now In Effect
Effective immediately, all AdvancED schools and school systems working towards an External Review must use the newly implemented AdvancED Standards for Quality. All AdvancED technologies, including the AdvancED Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools (ASSIST) now solely support the five-standard protocol. If your school or school system is currently working with the former seven-standard format, please contact the AdvancED Virginia office immediately so that we can work with you to make the transition.

The new AdvancED Standards for Quality mark an evolution in continuous improvement and accreditation. While leveraging accreditation as a powerful tool for driving effective practices in support of student learning, these research-based Standards also emphasize teaching and learning; share embedded common themes across Standards; and address students' ability to successfully develop learning, thinking, and life skills as critical elements of student achievement.

AdvancED Standards for Quality:
  • Standard 1: Purpose and Direction
  • Standard 2: Governance and Leadership
  • Standard 3: Teaching and Assessing for Learning
  • Standard 4: Resources and Support Systems
  • Standard 5: Using Results for Continuous Improvement
