BLUE RIDGE DISTRICT UPDATE
John Christodoulides - District Chair

Our first presentation took place on August 21, 2014 at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital. P. Schultz, principal at HKS, made a thorough presentation on the 2014 FGI updates, highlighting changes in Life Safety regulations.

We met on November 20th in Roanoke where T. Bartlett of CCRD presented the latest in OR designs. Analysis by Computational Fluid Dynamics is being used to design laminar air flow and assist in modular construction of ceiling systems.

We started 2015 with a meeting in Radford at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.   L. Schoff gave a very interesting seminar on low power transformers.  As these which operating continuously, deployment of energy efficient units can result in significant savings.  This is an important opportunity as we are trying to minimize carbon footprint.

In addition to our meetings, Blue Ridge Leadership has been actively working on increasing our membership base as well as succession planning. I look forward to seeing you in Williamsburg next month!

CENTRAL VA DISTRICT UPDATE
Joe Auricchio - District Chair

The VSHE Board of Directors has begun planning another annual conference in Williamsburg in May 2015. Once again, this year we will have prestigious speakers, a room full of vendors and several educational sessions. Go to VSHE.org to register.

VSHE implemented statewide education sessions each quarter. In 2015 we began teleconferencing our quarterly meetings. Even with this new feature, we always encourage participation at the meetings to network and see old friends. If travel is not possible, do the next best thing and join us in cyberspace.

If you or someone you know would like to help plan, organize or be involved with any of the VSHE events, feel free to contact me for information. I am also open to suggestions on topics for quarterly meetings.

Lastly, if you are not a member, become one. If you are a member, promote VSHE to find more members. The VHSE Central group is made up of people from many different skills and experience. Facility Managers, Architects, Engineers and vendors of many different types are members of the Central VA District. Together, we all strive to enhance the healthcare environment by sharing information and collectively working as a group. This group is self-supported by its membership and events throughout the year. I encourage you to renew your membership each September and ask that you too encourage others to join.

HAMPTON ROADS DISTRICT UPDATE
Robert Richards - District Chair

As we all find ourselves recovering from the snow events this season, we also find ourselves in warmer weather – FINALLY! What a drastic toll the snow takes on our region, and what an impeccable job done by all to keep our healthcare facilities safe and ready for our visitors, our staff and all of the family members who visit our campuses. I believe during one snow event that my campus alone, Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, must have had 3 inches fall in just one hour, with many more hours of snowfall. Great job by all!

As we move into spring, we’re focused on our campuses and the beautiful landscapes that we maintain. I can’t wait for the flowers to come in and all bloom. Welcome spring. We also might find some time to play a round of golf, and speaking of golf, are you registered to join us in Williamsburg for the 2015 Annual VSHE Conference and Golf Invitational, where the conference attendees and others will enjoy a round of golf at the Golden Horseshoe on May 7th at 1300? If not, there are still some openings left for the golf.

More importantly, are you registered to attend any portions of the conference this year. I believe there are a few seats available for the Certified Healthcare Construction (CHC), Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) and the Healthcare Construction Certificate courses. Please take a moment and check the schedule of events on the VSHE.ORG web site. Find the Conference on the VSHE home page, click the conference tab, click registration, and then find the agenda tab. All the details you need are on the conference page of the VSHE.ORG website.

Our Quarterly VSHE Hampton Roads District Meeting is April 28th at 1500 EST. Our meeting is going to be live on the internet and available to all through broadcasting. We expect the meeting to be held at the Virginia Beach offices of Clark Nexsen. With schedules filling up already, and our catching up after a rough winter, if changes are necessary, we’ll be sure to make a mass email notification. We hope to see you at the conference in May at Williamsburg.
