Translating Neurobiology for Clinical Practice in the Treatment of Complex Trauma
Date: June 6, 2018 | Facilitator: Geraldine Crisci, MSW
This training is suitable for: Mental health professionals: psychotherapists, counselors, psychologists, and social workers.
Description: Achievements in the science of neurobiology over the past decade hold profound implications for the treatment of complex trauma, and how these advances in brain research relate to behavioural presentation. The workshop will outline the understanding of functional developmental level results in more appropriate and attainable goals for behavioural change and response, identify the barriers to growth and development for severely neglected children, and present how chaos and unpredictability in early care giving result in brain disorganization. The presenter will teach approaches to working with children who have been raised in chaotic, unpredictable and violent homes. Participants will leave with the four building blocks of functionality based on early caregiving, and understand the importance and application of developmental assessment in treatment planning.
