From President Boettcher

Dear WMCA Members:

My boss can’t believe that I will be in the office most of June and part of July.  Things have started to slow down some for me as your president, only because the district meetings have virtually stopped and only a few of the committees are still meeting.  I must say that I have truly enjoyed traveling these past few months, and even though my chair at the office has remained vacant my desk is piled with paperwork.   Now I will have time to devote to my real job with the City of Altoona.

I so enjoyed carrying our state flag at the IIMC Conference in Omaha, and the fact that I did not trip and fall flat on my face, which certainly crossed my mind a few times.  I was given the opportunity to speak with other presidents during a round table discussion, and the most important thing I learned is how great our state association is and how well established we are compared to other states.    Our membership numbers far exceed other states along with the educational opportunities we offer and the number of scholarships which are given out each year.    Also the fact that we have an Executive Director who is committed to our association made many states envious of us.

I hope many of you will be able to attend the UW-Green Bay Clerks and Treasurers Institute in July.   I will be available on Sunday, July 10th to welcome the students and talk about WMCA and discuss what a wonderful partnership our association has with UW Green Bay and on Thursday July 14th I will be there for the Graduation Banquet and Ceremony.   We are so blessed to have such a great Institute Director, Kassie Van Remortel.

If you have not registered for the Annual Conference being held in Appleton, August 18-19, please do.  You will have so many educational opportunities to choose from, plus the networking, vendors, door prizes along with great food and entertainment.   Our constitution has been revised and will be voted on at the annual business meeting during lunch on Thursday.  The committee has worked very hard on the revisions and should be congratulated on a job well done.   So mark your calendars and get that registration into Faith now, time is running out.   The conference committee has worked extremely hard since August of last year, and will be there to welcome you with open arms.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  I am always available by phone or email to talk with you.    Enjoy the warm weather and summer activities.

Sandra Boettcher CMC
WMCA President

Wednesday Evening President’s Reception Promises to have you “Rollin in the Aisles!”

On Wednesday evening, no need to leave the hotel to forage for dinner after your day in class or day of driving to Appleton.  Come to the President’s Reception and Dinner.

And after dinner, contemplating whether or not to attend the President’s reception?  I can assure you that you should answer “yes” to that question!

Our entertainment this year is like nothing we’ve had in the past.  You will laugh, sing, and be standing on your feet by the end of the performance.  SongBlast-Dueling Guitars—This amazing entertainment is coming to the Fox Valley from Minnesota.  Let’s give them a great Wisconsin welcome!

Last Chance to Join a Committee

Finally, summer is here and we can start to enjoy the great weather!  Take out your bike, your boat, go for a long walk, head to the pool, whatever makes you happy in the warm weather because before we know it, Football weather will be here!

A couple of months ago I sent a “blurb” out regarding serving on a WMCA Committee, and I received a great response from you!  I still have a few openings to fill by the end of our Conference in August.  Here’s what’s available:

  • Promotions Committee (4 Openings)
  • PEC Committee (1 Opening)

Serving on a WMCA Committee is a great way to give back to the Association, and an even better way to work towards your Certification!  When you’ve decided which committee you’d like to serve on, shoot me an email at bootleg711@hotmail.com and I will add your name to the roster.  Thanks for stepping up, and make sure to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Temporary Class "B" & "Class B"
 Guidance
 BeerandWine

from Tom Ourada, Revenue Tax Specialist

In response to questions regarding whether organizations applying for temporary Class "B" and temporary "Class B" licenses are required to have been in existence for at least 6 months before the date of application, the Department of Revenue issues the following guidance.

Eligibility for temporary Class "B" and temporary "Class B" licenses:

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (the Department) has reviewed the statutes listing the organizations eligible for:

  • Temporary Class "B" (beer) licenses, sec. 125.26(6), Wis. Stats.
  • Temporary "Class B" (wine) licenses, sec. 125.51(10) Wis. Stats.

The Department has determined that churches, lodges, and societies are required to have been in existence for at least 6 months before the date of application for a temporary license.  The following organizations are not subject to the 6-month limitation:

  • bona fide clubs
  • county or local fair associations
  • agricultural societies
  • chambers of commerce
  • posts of veteran’s organizations

The Department will be updating forms, publications, and common questions on the Revenue website.
