Mizel Museum & Ekar Farm Present

How Sweet It Is

A series of programs about bees and honey beginning Sept. 6

With Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) approaching, Mizel Museum and Ekar Farm present a month-long program schedule including: Salon Night: Bees & Honey 101, a Community Hive Build at Ekar Farm followed by The Bee Movie family film screening, and L'Daber al D'vash: A Talk on Honey with a panel of local rabbis. Midnight in Paris

Wednesday, September 12, 6:30-8:30pm

Screening of Woody Allen’s Oscar winning Midnight in Paris (and French pastries!); in conjunction with the Windows to the Divine’s Altitude and Attitude Paint Out 2012, when over 50 artists from Colorado and around the country will come to Denver’s Botanic Gardens to paint. CLICK HERE for tickets.

This year's Paint Out features special events throughout the month including: September 6 - Lunch with Artists & Roundtable; September 8 - Quick Draw at Washington Park in Denver; and September 15 - Artists' Demonstration at Abend Gallery. Babi Yar Memorial

Sunday, September 23, 11am-Noon

Mizel Museum presents the annual Babi Yar Memorial at Babi Yar Park in Denver to honor the memories of those lost during the Holocaust in Babi Yar and elsewhere. Free docent-led tours of Babi Yar Park following the program. Free and open to the public.

Meet Artist-in-Resident Anton Antonov

Month of September

During September the Mizel Museum will host Anton Antonov, an artist from Yemin Orde Youth Village in the mountains of northern Israel. Yemin Orde is a place where at-risk youth transform their lives by embracing healing, self-respect and community service. Stop by and meet Anton, who will be creating a work of art on-site at the museum.

Sukkahpalooza!

The autumn harvest festival of Sukkot is named after the outdoor booths or huts (sukkah) in which Jews dwell during this week-long celebration. The Museum welcomes everyone—all backgrounds and ages—to our sukkah for this family-friendly festivity. Look around the exhibit for inspiration, then join us in the sukkah for art projects, dancing and much more! CLICK HERE to register.

Bus Tour of Jewish Denver

Sunday, October 21, 11am-3pm

Hit the road with the Mizel Museum! Join us on this behind the scenes tour of Jewish Denver as it was and as it is today. Your guide will be historical-raconteur-about-town, Phil Goodstein, author of Northside Story. The tour will highlight historical and contemporary institutions on the East Side, and then delve into the romantic core of the old West Colfax Jewish community. Phil’s colorful stories and outrageous anecdotes will help you experience local Jewish history in a whole new light. CLICK HERE for tickets.

Well-known master painter and professor Boris Shoshensky teaches concepts and techniques for all levels. Fall classes held on Tuesdays mid-day and Wednesday afternoons. To register email Gail or call (303) 749-5018.



Restorative Hatha Yoga

Enjoy a gentle, restorative yoga class in the peaceful, inspiring setting of Mizel Museum's exhibit. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 4:45-6:00pm. Price per class is $18; pay at the door.


Jewish Meditation with Rabbi Stephen Booth Nadav

Sunday, September 23, 4:30-6:30pm

Meditation is the practice of making ordinary moments sacred, or finding the sacred in the ordinary. Join Rabbi Steve to develop the skills of Jewish mindfulness including meditation instruction, chanting, walking, Torah and text study. Drop-in class; donations accepted.
