Oklahoma

September 17, 2013

Greetings,

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce the new AdvancED Oklahoma staff, share information about the status of the AdvancED Oklahoma Office and share current and future professional learning opportunities that are and will be available to you.

New AdvancED Oklahoma Staff
I am Dr. Nancy Bolz and the new Director of AdvancED Oklahoma, effective September 9. I have worked for AdvancED for 13 years, two as the Assistant Director and 11 as the Director for AdvancED Kansas. Educational experiences prior to that included serving as a high school principal for a school with about 500 students and as a school improvement/staff development coordinator for a school system with 11 schools. My teaching assignments included physical education, health and sex education. I am currently an adjunct professor for Wichita State University in Educational Leadership and the past chair of the Kansas Learning First Alliance. At the young age of 48, I adopted two incredible daughters from Guatemala, Sophia (6) and Maria (9), and I reside in Benton, Kansas.

Janene Eisenhart is now the Administrative Assistant for AdvancED Oklahoma, having just started with AdvancED Kansas in June. Janene recently moved to Wichita from the Kansas City area and brings a wealth of skills to her position. She most recently served as a para-professional at Cottonwood Elementary School in Andover, Kansas.  You will have the privilege to interact with her through your phone calls and emails to our office. She manages registration for professional learning, billing, enrollment for college credit and some oversight of the External Reviews. She has one son (Reed) who is married and working on a doctorate in chemistry.

I hope the information about the office provides you with some peace of mind that supporting you remains a top priority for our office. You have my commitment to do my best to serve the schools and students of Oklahoma! I look forward to working with you all!

Respectfully,
Nancy
Director, AdvancED Oklahoma

Status of the AdvancED Oklahoma Office
Dr. Daniel Craig accepted a position with EduCare effective Sept. 9. Traci Sarani continues to serve as the Administrative Assistant through the end of September. She still can be reached at trsarani@advanc-ed.org and has been very instrumental in the transition of the office. We wish them both the very best as they transition.

Effective August 23, the AdvancED Oklahoma Office space in the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) building was needed for OSDE personnel. In combination with Dr. Craig’s departure, a decision was made to combine the Oklahoma and Kansas offices to best meet the needs of both states. Oklahoma and Kansas each have approximately 200 schools and would be best served by one director. AdvancED has been moving toward the concept of Managing Offices that serve two states in regions where numbers of schools are not sufficient to support a full-time director for one state. Since the Kansas office is located in Wichita, both state capitols are approximately two hours away, making it an ideal situation. So the Wichita office and our contact information are listed below:

Professional Learning Opportunities
Professional learning designed to enhance your work will be delivered in a variety of formats to include a fall conference, full-day and half-day workshops, and webinars. Technology allows us to immediately make numerous webinars available to you. These webinars provide information about continuous improvement as well as the accreditation process. The fee for a webinar is very affordable; it can include as many participants as you like and eliminates substitute and travel costs. For the future, I will continue working with the state council to revise the fall conference to include a keynote speaker and an Awards Luncheon. The current fall conference format that prepares you for your External Review will be moved to a half-day training in January to provide more time for schools to organize their work. This will be coordinated in tandem with other half-day workshops to supplement your work on an annual basis.  Visit our Professional Development Calendar to find out more about the various professional learning opportunities offered.
