For me, the start of a new school year has always felt more like a time for planning and resolutions than when the ball drops on January 1st. If you are like our development office at Catholic Charities, we are busy planning our fundraising activities for the next twelve months – especially our year-end appeal. Because of my involvement with AFP, both on the local level and attending AFP professional development conferences and presentations, I am full of new ideas to make this year’s activities exciting, innovative and successful.

This is also the time of year when the Greater Wichita Chapter of AFP is building its board of directors for 2019. National Philanthropy Day: Scholarships are offered to members and non-members to attend the National Philanthropy Day celebration. The event includes morning skill-building workshops as well as an awards luncheon (a $75 member or $90 non-member value). Click here to apply. Applications are due by September 7th.

Sharon G. Miles Professional Development Fund: Funded by her friends, colleagues and community leaders, the Sharon G. Miles Professional Development Fund exists to honor Sharon’s dedication and leadership in fundraising. The Fund will provide $500 in financial support to one (1) qualifying member of the Greater Wichita AFP Chapter. The scholarship is to be used to increase the recipient’s knowledge of and professionalism in fundraising. Click here for an application. The deadline to apply is October 1st.

Chamberlain Scholarship: To help individuals serving not-for-profit organizations develop their knowledge and skill in fundraising, the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and the Greater Wichita Chapter sponsor an annual Chamberlain Scholarship to attend the AFP International Conference on Fundraising (ICON) each spring. This year the conference is March 31 - April 2, 2019, in San Antonio, Tx. One scholarship will be awarded covering the cost of conference registration (approximately a $595 value) PLUS another $1250 (in 2018) to help cover travel and lodging costs as a one-time award to a deserving individual, who has not attended a previous AFP International Conference.  Note that Chamberlain Scholars are responsible for a $10 payment to secure the registration. Click here for an application with a deadline of October 1st.
