March 2013

Dr. Keith Shaffer joins AdvancED Mississippi as Director

Shaffer01
Having served nearly thirty years in public K-12 education in the state of Mississippi, I wondered what was next. As I have often shared with students over the years, “Life is about doors and windows” that you have to recognize and know why they are there. I am so very excited to join AdvancED as Director for the AdvancED Mississippi Office. I have been associated with SACS CASI and AdvancED for many years and have become more involved in recent years by serving on the state council. Following in the footsteps of Dr. Harold Fisher and Dr. Bud Ginn, I face a challenging task of maintaining the level of service and commitment of these gentlemen. The most essential challenge is to meet the needs of our schools and school systems in Mississippi in these ever changing times.

With an interim state superintendent in place at MDE, the changing of the guard with the director of MAIS, the numerous changes in superintendents and headmasters over the last couple of years and the constant changes in school principals, I find my greatest challenge is making sure that all administrators know about AdvancED and the role it can play in accreditation and continuous school improvement. With new accountability standards looming and the outcry from state and local leaders for more accountability, AdvancED is poised in Mississippi to help make a difference in methodically approaching continuous school improvement with a process and tools to measure and analyze stakeholder feedback and progress in maintaining the five AdvancED Standards for Quality.

As AdvancED Mississippi transitions and grows, Administrative Assistant Debbie Price and I look forward to working in your schools and school systems and helping you meet needs and requirements in the process of accreditation and continuous school improvement.

Sincerely,

Dr. Keith Shaffer
