Opportunity to Meet with Egyptian Energy Decision-Makers

In pursuit of its goal to become a regional energy leader, Egypt plans to invest $8 billion in upgrading its oil refineries and modernizing its petroleum ports. To help position U.S. companies to win the Ministry of Petroleum procurement contracts associated with these plans, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency is hosting the Egypt Refineries Modernization Reverse Trade Mission to introduce delegates to the design, manufacture, and operation of U.S. equipment, products and services that can advance Egypt’s energy sector goals.
As part of the visit, USTDA invites U.S. companies to a Business Briefing to learn about upcoming projects and procurements and to network with key decision-makers from Egypt.

Duqm Calls Investment Forum
On Thursday, October 11, 2018, the Bilateral Chamber, in partnership with the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm, Oman (SEZAD), held the Duqm Calls Investment Forum which convened a cadre of Houston's most impressive public and private-sector decision-makers to hear about the ample investment opportunities available in what is considered the largest special economic zone in the Middle East region.

With over 55% of the area still left for future expansions, SEZAD is actively looking to partner with U.S. businesses. Many companies in the Houston region are already investing in the ports. Duqm offers many competitive advantages and incentives including but not limited to 100% freehold by foreigners, renewable tax exemption for up to 30 years, and 50-year renewable land usage. Duqm’s master plan has the city divided into several zones: petrochemical, shipping, tourism, and fishing, among others, which offer a wide number of business opportunities for U.S. investors.

Ambassador Insight Series: Qatar
On October 17, 2018, the Bilateral Chamber of Commerce and the US-Qatar Business Council hosted a special business luncheon featuring His Excellency Sheikh Meshal Bin Hamad Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United States.
Ambassador
Al Thani’s trip to Houston is part of the Gulf country’s effort to
support long-term disaster recovery projects in the region. During his
visit, His Excellency fulfilled Qatar’s pledge of donating $2.5 million
each to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s new Fund To Reduce Homelessness
and to the reopening of the historic Riverside General Hospital.

Program
participants engaged directly with the Ambassador and received candid
insight on the country's economic and development strategies. According
to the U.S. Embassy in Doha, the U.S. continues to be Qatar’s largest
foreign direct investor and largest trading partner, having exchanged
more than $62 billion of goods and services in the past 20 years alone.
Attendees included a number of executives representing U.S. stakeholders
in Qatar such as McDermott, ExxonMobil, Houston Methodist, Halliburton,
KBR, CHI St. Lukes, and Excelerate, among others.
