OSHA to Air Your Not-So-Clean Laundry On September 11, 2014, OSHA announced a final rule which greatly expands the scope of workplace injuries which employers must report to OSHA on an expedited basis.  Currently, only a work-related fatality or hospitalization of 3 or more employees (due to a work-related incident) must be reported to OSHA within 8 hours.  Certain injuries on a mechanical press also must be reported within 30 days.  However, beginning January 1, 2015, all employers must report the following:  a) all work-related fatalities (within 8 hours); b) all work-related inpatient hospitalizations of employees (regardless of the number of employees) within 24 hours; c) all amputations or loss of an employee’s eye within 24 hours.  A more controversial part of the new rule states that OSHA will make these reports public on its website!  Further information regarding these new reporting obligations, and OSHA’s designated methods for making the reports can be found in the new rule,at www.osha.gov, and then click on “News Release”.

Legal Links is now a regular section providing useful links to employment law resources. This information is provided by MAHRA Members Andrea Chatfield, Esq. of Cook, Little, Rosenblatt & Manson and Jim Reidy, Esq. of Sheehan, Phinney, Bass, & Green.
