Celebrating Learning and Teaching 2019 will feature thought-provoking sessions exploring practical ways of progressing the success of our students and graduates: embedding employability, engaging diverse learners, implementing innovative pedagogies, refreshing course and learning design and caring for our own well-being as educators.

You will be inspired by the contemporary perspectives provided by invited keynote speakers and the demonstrations of innovative practice from our Griffith educators. We will also celebrate the achievements of our remarkable educators at the Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Awards and the HEA Fellowships@Griffith Celebration.

Wednesday 9th October

Leadership of Learning Symposium (G23001)

This event is an opportunity for you to contribute to discussions that will drive the Griffith Learning and Teaching Academy's direction in learning and teaching into the future. There will be facilitated discussions and networking with peers, and a keynote presentation from Professor Dominique Parrish, Pro Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching), Macquarie University.

Monday 21st October

Creating Inclusive Learning Cultures: Celebrating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Learning and Teaching (G13034)

Join our guest, IRU Vice Chancellors’ Fellow Associate Professor Amani Bell, along with a panel of esteemed Griffith colleagues to discuss the multi-faceted nature of diversity, equity and inclusion in learning and teaching during a ‘Q&A’ style interactive panel session. You can attend this event face to face at Nathan campus or online via YouTube.

Following on from the success of last year's session on self-compassion in the workplace, we're running another session that's all about YOU - the educator. This year you'll learn more about educator mental health and strategies for well-being with Professor Allison Waters from the School of Applied Psychology. Everyone is welcome.

Teaching Using Engaging and Empowering Pedagogies (register via online form)

This event will start with Professor Debra Henly (Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor) giving the opening address: Learning & Teaching at Griffith: What does the future hold? You will then have the unique opportunity to attend open classes facilitated by Griffith educators, and experience an interactive lecture presentation by Dr Jared Cooney Horvath, an Educational Neuroscientist from the University of Melbourne.

Thinking Design to Really Engage your Learners (G13043)

In this session you will work through a mini design thinking activity. With input from online students and experienced educators, you will have an opportunity to explore how you could approach a learning activity in a different way by applying the Design Thinking method.

HEA Fellowships@Griffith Celebration (G13036)

Inclusivity in the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) (G13038)

Our learning and teaching practices provide opportunities to prepare students (and ourselves) to learn, engage and work in a world where global diversity is valued. Join us at this important event to learn how Universal Design and Universal Design for Learning Principles can underpin these practices. A selection of presentations, activities and an expo will help and inspire us to find efficient and effective ways to enhance inclusion for all across our VLE.
