Native West Virginian Named AdvancED West Virginia Director!
AdvancED is pleased to welcome Brenda Nash-Mason, a native West Virginian, as your new State Director.  She was raised in Cabell County and graduated from Marshall University.  In 2001, Brenda moved to Jefferson County in the Eastern Panhandle and taught at both Shenandoah University and Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia.  Brenda joined the AdvancED/NCA CASI Postsecondary staff in February 2009 and has visited more than 50 schools nationwide offering training and technical assistance.

Her professional career includes experience in teaching, business and marketing, human resources and student services.  Brenda earned teacher licensure in business and technical education, marketing, and family/consumer sciences, as well as a graduate certificate in public administration management.  She is completing the research phase of her Master of Science in Education degree at Shenandoah University and anticipates a May 2014 graduation date.

The AdvancED West Virginia Office is located at the Marshall University Graduate College in South Charleston.  She is an active member of Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church and is known as “Granny B” to those closest to her--this role brings her joy unspeakable.  Brenda is looking forward to assisting you with all of your accreditation needs.

Wood County District Hosting Historical Review
Wood County School District is hosting an External Review on October 27-30.  It is the first school system in the state to host a review using the system’s approach.  History is being made in Wood County under the leadership of Dr. Pat Law and Judith A. Johnson.  Three cheers to the folks at all of the Wood County Schools for being the WV state pioneer using the AdvancED School System Accreditation model.
Professional Development Opportunities!

Professional development is available to you and your staff.  Serving on an External Review team is the very best professional development available and it will surely be a valuable experience.  If your Internal  Review is on the horizon, it also helps to prepare you for your own self assessment.  Team members are encouraged to “borrow” ideas from the host school to implement back at their own schools.  It is a win-win as the peers share knowledge.  Training is available.  Contact Brenda for more information.

Are You Using ASSIST?
AdvancED was so excited when the first component of ASSIST™ (AdvancED Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools) was launched nearly two years ago.  The excitement is still there as our accredited institutions are reaping the benefits of using ASSIST.

Surveys are just one of the many features of ASSIST.  ASSIST resources guide your next internal and external review for accreditation, including Surveys, Student Performance Diagnostic, and Stakeholder Feedback Diagnostic tools.  In fact, more than two million students, parents and teachers across the United States and around the world have completed AdvancED surveys about the quality of their educational institutions using ASSIST.  Institutions also can submit a Self Assessment, Executive Summary and school improvement plan in ASSIST.  ASSIST is the future of school improvement, and we invite you to be a champion for educational excellence and log in to ASSIST today!

Remember, it is never too early to begin collecting data.  ASSIST makes it easy to engage all of your stakeholders in your continuous improvement efforts.  Contact Brenda for more information on how ASSIST can benefit your school.

Accreditation Report Due

2013-14, it is time to submit your External Review Date Request Form. Click here to access the form from the AdvancED West Virginia web page

Are You Proud of your Accreditation?
Of course, you are proud, and we want to help you display your pride in your school or school system’s achievement by providing you with an accreditation seal that you can display.  Schools and systems that have achieved accreditation through the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) can obtain the latest accreditation seal to display at their school or district.  These seals supersede the use of prior AdvancED or NCA CASI logos or seals that may have been used in the past and should be used in all marketing materials moving forward.

AdvancED developed a Communications Kit tailored especially for schools and school systems to promote their accreditation in their community.  In this kit, you can find the seal along with other resources and tools to help you spread the word about your commitment and dedication to student achievement.  If you are unsure how to access the Communications Kit for the accreditation seals, press release templates and accreditation brochures, contact Brenda.  Do not delay; start using these tools today on your website, on your diplomas, on your stationary…the ideas are endless!

AdvancED, the home of NCA CASI, NWAC and SACS CASI, is dedicated to
advancing excellence in education worldwide.
