We are pleased to welcome back Mr. Matthew D. Selekman to present this NEW highly sought after hands-on, practice-oriented, 2-day workshop with us this month! In addition to being an author, a licensed clinical social worker, addictions counselor and the Director of Partners for Collaborative Solutions, Mr. Selekman is also a great presenter.
Participants of his workshop will learn the strategic use of self-framework, how to further hone observation, listening, questioning and reflective skills to seize important client anomalies. Mr. Selekman will outline how to construct, select, and tailor-fit therapeutic experiments and rituals in line with clients' stages of readiness for change, theories of change, psychological reactance levels, and goals. The use of idea-generating tools and strategies for tapping the inventiveness and imagination powers of clients to con-construct creative and high-quality solutions will also be covered.
Participants will come away from this workshop with a plethora of therapeutic tools and strategies and confidence in working outside of their comfort zones with their most challenging clients.

Using recent neurological research and proven stress reduction methods, this workshop will provide practical tools that professionals can use to help dysregulated clients ground themselves and regain a sense of self-control and self-efficacy.
Participants will learn how the brainstem, the limbic system and the pre-frontal cortex system work together and impact each other, how these three systems differentially affect "fight or flight", emotional response and cognitive distortions. Ms. Jones will present different grounding techniques that work with each of the three systems, to bring clients back into their "window of tolerance" and bring traumatized clients out of the "there and then" to the "here and now” to allow for treatment.

Overview: Refugees are vulnerable to mental health problems, though not all refugees experience them. The rates of mental health problems and illnesses vary considerably between and within different groups. These variations reflect differences in exposure to, and effects of, risk factors on specific refugee populations and groups within these populations. Refugees are less likely to seek mental health services than the general population. When they seek services, they tend to experience disparities in access and quality of care and health outcomes.
