While our doors are currently closed, our services are very much open and available to you and your students. We have a lot going on – acquiring new resources, consulting with staff and students, teaching online workshops, and planning for upcoming trimesters.

The newsletter aims to keep you up to date with everything we are doing and what we have planned. It will also address a range of wider issues that affect research and researchers.

Libraries at selected campuses will reopen on 13 July. See the Library's home page for details.

  • Griffith's 3-Minute Thesis competition will be fully online this year. The Library's Yuri Banens has created two short clips - Filming your video and Editing your video - to help you create your video and help your entry stand out. The Gale Digital Scholar Lab

article2-image
An innovative new online tool, the Gale Digital Scholar Lab allows users to collect and analyse data sets from Gale Primary Sources, using built-in text analysis and visualisation tools.

Natural language processing (NLP) tools can be applied to raw text data, facilitating new discoveries and insights.

What can you search?

Griffith University’s Gale Primary Sources holdings  include, among others, the following data sets:
  • The Making of Modern Law
  • Nineteenth Century Collections Online
  • China and the Modern World
  • Women’s Studies Archive
  • Archives of Sexuality and Gender
  • Refugees, Relief and Resettlement
  • British Library Newspapers
Use the library catalogue to access the Digital Scholar Lab, Gale Primary Sources, and find each individual archive.

The library recently hosted a Digital Scholar Lab webinar to enable researchers, HDRs and academic staff to learn more about the Lab’s high-powered computational analysis tools. The webinar, entitled Tools to explore and compare histories of racism, civil rights and social inequalities, was recorded and you can view it online after filling in a short form.

Top Tip

Want to create a higher resolution PDF version of a Word or Powerpoint file? Instead of saving your document or presentation as a PDF, go to Print and then select Microsoft Print to PDF instead of your usual printer or print queue. You will be prompted to provide a title for this new file. Creating a PDF in this way will greatly enhance the resolution of any images in the PDF output.

What you might have missed on the blog

Our blog, Library Connect, aims to keep you informed on issues that matter. Here are some recent highlights.
