Aiming for the competitive edge
Thursday 12 June will mark the kick off of the Football World Cup and the beginning of a month of competition. Businesses, nations and cities also compete to reach the top rankings. In the most recent indexes, Switzerland ranked second in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook and London marched to the top of PWC’s Cities of Opportunity. The Geneva area is no exception, and on 2 June the city played host to a ground-breaking BSCC conference on the region’s future competitiveness. The BSCC is also concentrating on maintaining its competitive edge by taking steps to implement the changes suggested by members in the annual satisfaction survey. Wishing you a successful month of June!
Magalie Chelius, BSCC Managing Director
BSCC Annual Satisfaction Survey – Top findings
We are pleased to share a report on the top findings of the BSCC Annual Satisfaction Survey with you. Thank you again for your time and valuable feedback. The findings show a positive level of satisfaction: 79% of respondents are very satisfied or satisfied with their BSCC membership; 86% would recommend BSCC membership to a colleague and 81% are very satisfied or satisfied with BSCC events. The survey also provided interesting positive aspects we need to further promote and areas we can improve. Diversified topics and value for money are important factors to consider for our future events programme and membership strategy.

Question of the Month May 2014 - Results
On a national vote on 18 May 2014, Swiss citizens decided to turn down a proposal to introduce a minimum wage. The May ‘Question of the Month’ asked before and after the vote, what impact the introduction of the proposed minimum wage (CHF 22.00/hour) would have on the Swiss economy. Most of the respondents took the view that the proposed minimum wage would have a negative impact. They see the flexible job market in Switzerland as a competitive advantage. Some respondents favoured the idea but found the proposed minimum wage too high and feared that this would result in increased unemployment and less vocational trainees.

Business Conference on future competitiveness of Geneva
Geneva’s future competitiveness is the ‘hot’ topic in the region these days. The BSCC Geneva Chapter made an important contribution to the public debate while simultaneously doing what it is good at: providing a neutral platform where all the relevant issues and differing opinions could be openly examined and discussed at the highest level. Supported by Credit Suisse, Coutts & Co., Knight Frank, PricewaterhouseCoopers as well as both the Cantons of Geneva and Vaud, the business conference was also enhanced by an important speech from the new (Acting) Director-General of the United Nations Office in Geneva.
