On November 21, 2017, Dr. John Almarode, from James Madison University Center for STEM Education Outreach, will present “Teaching Children in Poverty: What Works Best in Teaching and Learning.” Dr. Almarode continues the focus on how to engage students living in poverty that Dr. Eric Jensen shared last fall. Dr. John Almarode has worked with schools, classrooms and teachers all over the world. John began his career in Augusta County, Virginia, teaching mathematics and science to a wide-range of students. Since then, he has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on the application of the science of learning to the classroom, school, and home environments. He has worked with hundreds of school districts and thousands of teachers in countries as far away as Australia, Canada, England, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, South Korea, and Thailand.
Schools implementing Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) will share their experiences concurrently with Dr. Almarode’s presentations. He will present the same content in the morning and in the afternoon.
