Dear Members and Friends

I, like many other mature workers, celebrated recently after the announcement of the planned increases in the retirement age and the re-employment age. They are steps in the right direction as are moves to increase CPF contributions for some mature workers. But they are not enough.

As a society we must progress further and faster. We must end age discrimination in the workforce for the twenty somethings just as much as for the fifty and sixty somethings. Age is irrelevant. The only criteria to access any job candidate should be: a positive attitude and a willingness to keep learning, integrity and effective communication skills plus the ability and willingness to work effectively in teams. And, above all, potential to contribute.

I have no doubt we’ll get there - maybe incrementally but get there Singapore will! I look forward to the day when everyone is paid according to their output and CPF contributions are the same for all working people.

Share your thoughts on this and other mature worker issues with my guest SPS Low Yen Ling on 11 Oct.

Have a great week ahead.

Yours faithfully
Victor Mills
Chief Executive
