Great music, art, food and drinks... there's no better way to spend this Sunday afternoon. Led by Basya Schechter, New York-based Pharaoh's Daughter blends a psychedelic sensibility with a pan-Mediterranean sensuality through percussion, flute, strings and electronica. Picturing Vishniac: A Closer Reading, New Work and Constructions of Jewish Identity

Roman Vishniac

Constituting the most widely recognized images of Jewish life in Eastern Europe before the Holocaust, Roman Vishniac’s photographs shape our memory of that vanished world, yet only a small selection has ever been published. Curator Maya Benton will discuss the process of establishing the Vishniac archive and present recently discovered work, including never-before-seen film footage. A program of the Programs in Jewish Studies at CU-Boulder, co-sponsored by the Mizel Museum. At Congregation Har HaShem, 3950 Baseline, Boulder. December 6 is Colorado Gives DayColorado Gives Day

Colorado Gives Day is an initiative to increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. This year it will take place during a 24-hour period on Tuesday, December 6. Donations will be accepted through GivingFirst.org, with a goal to inspire and unite Coloradans in supporting local nonprofits. Last year, the generosity of Coloradans shined when $8.7 million was donated to favorite local charities. We're counting down to Colorado Gives Day 2011! Salon Night: Art, Science & the Cosmic Connection

Monica Petty AielloDon’t miss an out-of-this-world discussion about how art, science and the cosmos connect. Monica Petty Aiello regularly consults with NASA mission scientists in the development of her works inspired by planetary surfaces. Martin Mendelsberg is a graphic designer, design educator and Hebrew typographer whose creative practice addresses the relationships between Judaic mysticism, mathematics and music. REGISTER TODAY!


The Power of Civic Engagement: Step Into Leadership

Little Rock Nine

Bridging the wise and the curious, this program inspires students to stand up and make a difference in their communities. Living Word Architect, community builder and youth advocate Adrian Molina returns as host, with civil rights activist Carlotta WallsLaNier of the Little Rock Nine and professors and human rights activists Helen Giron and Sheldon Steinhauser. Step Into Leadership is open to all middle and high school students. The program will be held at Hinkley High School on January 31 and at Lakewood High School on February 2. Warm up on chilly winter nights with free admission to 4,000 Year Road Trip: Gathering Sparks, hot tea and rum balls from 5-8pm. NEW for kids! Scout About, an interactive activity that challenges children to search and think!


Painting with Boris Shoshensky

Well-known master painter and professor Boris Shoshensky teaches concepts and techniques for all levels. Day classes held on Tuesdays; late afternoon classes on Wednesdays. To register email Tia or call (303) 749-5018.


Restorative Hatha Yoga

Enjoy a gentle, strengthening, restorative yoga class in the peaceful and inspiring setting of the Mizel Museum's exhibit. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 5:15-6:45pm. Price per class is $18; pay at the door.


Jewish Meditation with Rabbi Stephen Booth Nadav

Sunday, Dec. 18, 4:30-6pm

Meditation is the practice of making ordinary moments sacred, or finding the sacred in the ordinary. Join Rabbi Steve to develop the skills of Jewish mindfulness including meditation instruction, chanting, walking, Torah and text study. All levels and backgrounds welcome. Drop-in class; donations on site.

The KlezmaticsUniversally regarded as the genre's most innovative band, the Klezmatics have spread the Yiddish gospel at performances ranging from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles to underground nightclubs in Budapest to outdoor festivals in Berlin—not to mention the occasional New York-area wedding or bar mitzvah (they performed at Charlotte's nuptials on "Sex and the City").
