A Message from the Chapter President, Wendy Glick

It doesn’t matter if you are in the for-profit or not-for-profit arena, telling stories is one of the most powerful means to influence, teach and inspire others about the work that you do. Storytelling forges connections among people and between people and ideas. Stories convey the culture, history, and values that unite people. When it comes to our families and our communities, the stories we hold in common are the ties that bind us.

Professor John D. Trybus of Georgetown University is a story scientist on a mission to help change makers around the world create and tell more effective stories that bring their missions and visions to life. Thanks to a collaboration between the Wichita Community Foundation and the Greater Wichita Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), John will be in Wichita on Friday morning, November 15, 2019, presenting on The Future of Social Impact Storytelling: What Will Change, What Won’t and Why It Matters.

As the current president of the Greater Wichita Chapter of AFP, I invite you and others from your business or organization to join us for this special presentation. The cost for attending the session is $40 for AFP members; $50 for non-members and includes a light breakfast.

Following Professor Trybus’ presentation we will celebrate the generous philanthropists and fundraising professionals who make a difference in our community at the 36th annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon Celebration. Please join us if you are able for this annual event that celebrates the philanthropic culture that is alive and well in the Greater Wichita area. There is an additional charge for attending the luncheon that follows Professor Trybus’ presentation.

I hope you will join us! Click here to get registered!

In January, your professional development committee has a fun program to ring in the new year. “The AFP Film Festival: A Sampling of Non-Profit Videos” will be at the Wichita Art Museum from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, January 9th. Come and see some examples of inspiring, heartwarming and clever fund-raising and stewardship videos and hear from the professionals who envisioned them!

Now comes the part where we need your help (other than attending the event in 2020): Nominate your favorite local video, from your organization or another’s, which tells a story, tugs at the heartstrings, makes you laugh or just is a really good example of how to do fundraising right! We are looking for capital projects, program and thank you videos from organizations large and small across our chapter. To nominate your organization’s video, or another one you adore, e-mail Lynette Murphy at lynette.murphy@wichita.edu.

Each and every day, the important work you do demonstrates that you are a leader in effecting change in our community, making it a much better place for all of us. These three words—Empower, Strengthen, Transform—describe WHAT you do as a fundraiser and WHY you do it.

Each year our chapter participates in the BE the CAUSE Campaign, which benefits both the Greater Wichita chapter and the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy. When you make your gift to the 2019 Be the CAUSE Campaign, you are leveraging change for our whole industry by:

· Empowering fundraisers by providing opportunities for training, networking, mentoring and research
· Strengthening nonprofit organizations by practicing ethical and effective fundraising, and
· Transforming society by connecting donors and volunteers with causes they value.
