Our National Quality Strategy
 “How exciting! For the first time in American history, the efforts and activities of the Federal Government related to health and health care will be guided by a focused strategy with a well-defined set of aims and priorities,” says NICHQ CEO Charlie Homer in his monthly President's Message. Dr. Homer discusses NICHQ's alignment with the new National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care and offers suggestions for fine-tuning the strategy.

Seeking Teams for Healthy Weight CollaborativeNICHQ and a consortium of leading health care and public health organizations have embarked on Collaborate for Healthy Weight, a nationwide effort to prevention and treat obesity, with an emphasis on strong partnerships among health care, public health and community-based programs. We are currently recruiting community teams to participate in a key piece of this work, the Healthy Weight Learning Collaborative. Applications are due by June 3. IOM Calls for National Quality Measures for Pediatric Care
 “The United States lacks robust national- and state-level information about the health status or health care quality of children and adolescents.” So says a new report from the IOM Committee on Pediatric Health and Health Care Quality Measures, on which Charlie Homer served. The report recommends a life-course approach to the measurement of health and health care quality, with new emphasis on the social and behavioral determinants of health and on monitoring disparities.

Help Us Pilot Test Our New Online Advocacy Training
 NICHQ’s Be Our Voice project is proud to announce the pilot launch of a new online advocacy training course, a series of interactive learning modules that will help train healthcare professionals to become advocates for policy changes impacting overweight and obesity in children. Before we launch the course to the general public, we are pilot testing it with a group of 25-50 healthcare professionals, including trained and untrained advocates. We would greatly appreciate your help in fine-tuning this program.
