National Housing Conference 2013 e-update

11 June 2013

We are pleased to release a draft outline of the program for the National Housing Conference 2013 - a new way home...

In the coming weeks, keynote speakers will be announced, with concurrent, workshop and Think Tank participants announced in July.

A new way home is about new ways of solving contemporary housing problems.

The conference program goes beyond the traditional ideas in housing and homelessness to find new solutions. Contemporary thinking and practice in financing social outcomes, market-design, client-centred service delivery, urban place-making and economic development will be at the core of the program. New people and fresh approaches will stimulate new debates and original conversations. This particular moment in time demands it!

Post the federal election and at precisely the time when the futures of the National Affordable Housing Agreement, the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness and the National Rental Affordability Scheme will be under scrutiny - this conference will shape the future of these important debates.

This conference is for those who seek to make a difference and want to lead the way in creating a new way home for Australia.

Through plenary and major concurrent sessions our international and local keynote speakers will draw out the implications of contemporary debates in public thinking for housing and homelessness policy and practice. Smaller concurrent sessions will provide the opportunity to get into the 'nitty-gritty' of these issues through a range of practice workshops, new research releases, and cutting edge policy debates.

Optional site tours prior to the opening conference session will allow delegates to see first-hand some innovative housing models and urban renewal developments, with workshop sessions later in the conference program allowing further debate and analysis of these successful local projects.

For the first time ever, the National Housing Conference will have a conference app—allowing for a paperless program, audience polling and questions to be sent directly to facilitators. Delegates will engage in all parts of the conference program like never before.

As well, the program will cater for informal conversations in the Think Tank where delegates can 'meet the speakers' up close and engage with colleagues.

The program has been designed with the invaluable input and strategic advice from our Program Advisers—experts in various associated sectors and disciplines. We've also captured feedback from a wider group who expressed interest in contributing to the program, and have incorporated responses from participants who attended last year's conference in Brisbane.

In the coming weeks, keynote speakers will be announced with concurrent, workshop and Think Tank participants announced in July.
