The Conference will feature two days of presentation sessions, November 1-2, and an opportunity for hands-on, interactive workshops on November 3rd.

Chairman's Corner

Greetings!

We are now in the midst of ASIS 2017, but there is still much news being generated by our ASIS National Capital Chapter.

The NCC is happy to report it will host a Young Professionals Happy Hour and Networking event on October 11th in Arlington, VA. More details and a link to the event details are provided below.

We are also approaching our Annual Golf Outing to be held Tuesday October 24th. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish, along with longest drive and closest to pin competitions. This event, which includes a luncheon, will be held at the Twin Lakes Golf Course – see below for further details.

Proceeds from the Golf Tournament will benefit the ASIS National Capital Chapter Security Education Fund and the ASIS International Foundation. For more information on the ASIS Int'l Foundation, please see the Foundation facts in the left column of this newsletter.

We all recognize that strong networking is a vital key to business development, and crucial to success. According to many reports, at least 80% of jobs are found through networking.

Networking, however, is not how many business cards you collect, but listening and sharing to create real connections. If you are genuine, and willing to give without expecting a return, you will build friendships, a resource which takes communication and time. This is what we do at ASIS NCC events - build relationships that go beyond the surface.

To those of you now attending ASIS 2017, enjoy the many benefits of ASIS 2017 and I hope to meet with you soon!

September Meeting Recap -
Career Transitioning with Kathy Lavinder

JEG-KL.1         K Lavinder.1

Ditch the resumé template.  Be creative.  Most importantly...be a good listener.

Kathy Lavinder, Founder and Executive Director of SI Placements offered these and many other recommendations during her presentation at the September National Capital Chapter meeting held in Washington DC.

Kathy engaged the audience of 31 members and guests with insights learned during her 17 plus years of experience recruiting and placing investigators and security managers in valuable employment positions.

Networking was brought forward as a critical job search strategy, and a skill our members benefit from at each ASIS NCC event. The attendees also listened attentively

as Kathy explained resumé preparation guidelines and advice for achieving success during the telephone and in-person interviews. The audience was provided so much constructive information they were ready to hit the ground running and confidently compete for that new position!

And don't forget to email a note of your appreciation after meeting with your interviewer. Tell them you appreciate their time - it is the polite thing to do!

If you would like more career tips and help, the ASIS 2017 Career Center will be a great resource with recruiters on hand, free head shots, and more.

Kathy Lavinder will also be speaking in the Career Center during ASIS 2017 on Tuesday, September 26th,

where you can get FREE career coaching or a resume

review!
