Dear
Members and Friends
A wise woman once said to me:
“Diversity is a given, inclusion
is not.” Gender equality is much
in the news now because of the
government’s initiative to
review the role of women in
society. That is welcome and for
it to succeed will need to
include a review of the role of
men in society too.
One
area of gender equality we have
been advocating for, over the
last 7 years, is the goal of
seeing more women on company
boards. I very much regret to
say that only a mandated quota
will produce the desired result.
All attempts at shaming the old
boy networks to change have only
produced tiny gains at glacial
speed.
Which brings me
neatly to BoardAgender. This is
an initiative of the Singapore
Council of Women’s Organisations
(SCWO) dedicated to advancing
more women into senior
leadership roles and boardrooms
in Singapore.
BoardAgender is launching the
pilot run of the BoardAgender
Mentoring Programme for Aspiring
Women Directors 2021. The
programme aims to equip the next
generation of female directors
to meet the challenges of today
and to be the governance leaders
of the future.
I
encourage all women Chamber
members who are interested to
become company directors to
consider this mentoring
programme. I equally encourage
both male and female Chamber
members who might be interested
in being programme mentors to
check out these links.
