PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

First and foremost, I hope everyone and their families are staying safe and healthy during this crazy time.

March was truly MADNESS. As life changes on a daily basis, we should not take things for granted. It’s truly sad that it has to take a Pandemic to bring everyone together in our country. No matter what job you do in life, we all play a very important roll in everyday life!

Thank you to everyone who made it to the March 5th 2020 IFMA Carolinas' Education Summit and Awards Gala.  Congratulations to Kellie Renzi and Michael MacDonagh - both were nominated for Associate Member of the Year at the Gala!

Also many thanks to those
who donated and sponsored the March Madness Challenge.  We will be able to donate $1240.00 to the Boys and Girls Club due to your generosity!

As you know, for residents and businesses of Wake County, the Wake County Board of Commissions issued an order effective at 5:00 PM on March 27th, and continuing through April 16th, to close all non-essential businesses within Wake County except to meet minimum basic operations.

With that said, at this time the following events have been rescheduled or postponed due to COVID-19:

  • 2020 Mike Bradley Memorial IFMA Foundation Golf Tournament - Scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, 2020 has been rescheduled
  • NEW DATE:  Wednesday, June 10, 2020 (this will also be our Monthly Meeting)
  • TIME:   11:00AM Registration with 1:00PM Shotgun Start
  • LOCATION:  Lochmere Golf Club, 2511 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary, NC
  • Professional Only Event & Annual Sponsor Social- Scheduled for May 5th will be POSTPONED
  • WHEN: NEW DATE TO BE DETERMINED
  • More details to follow…..
  • SPEAKER:  THOMAS DISMUKES

On April 22nd, we celebrate Administrative Professionals Day.  I’d like to say thank you to our support staff, Candi McDowell and Tamara Tinker, for taking care of the day-to-day details of running our Chapter and allowing us to focus on the “big stuff”.  They do a great job, and we appreciate everything they do!

Thank you again for your continued support of IFMA! Stay safe and healthy.

Family Forever, For Always, No Matter What"

1st ANNUAL IFMA CAROLINAS' SUMMIT & GALA

The 1st Annual IFMA Carolinas’ Summit and Gala was a success! We had a great turnout of 115 FM Professionals and Associate Members at the Foundation for the Carolinas in Charlotte, NC for an afternoon of educational sessions followed by a cocktail reception and awards dinner. The educational sessions were very informative, kicked off by John Rimer who discussed Capital Replacement Programs. John provided a plethora of information about how to sell and justify a Capital Replacement Program to upper management, as well as some options for getting it done on the cheap. Following John was a panel discussion on Women in FM moderated by Ursula Foxworthy. She was joined by Cindy Clayton from The Mint Museum (retired), Corrina Knight from Red Hat, Jennifer Honaker from SPX Flow, and Elizabeth Valente from Macys. The panel discussed how they got started in FM, the challenges they have faced with being women in a male dominated industry and how they succeeded, as well as what needs to be done to encourage more young women to choose FM as a career path. Our last presentation of the afternoon was by Mike Petrusky of the Workplace Innovator podcast who discussed the paradoxes in today’s workplaces. Depending on who you talk to, the workplace is either completely different than 10 years ago or just the same. Obviously there is more technology in the workplace, but attitudes are polarized on the effect of this technology to our occupants. The bottom line is twofold: we need to use technology to better engage our workforce to attract and retain the top talent; and we could all use a little more Baby Yoda in our daily lives.

After the educational sessions the attendees relaxed and networked during the cocktail hour, and then it was time for the awards dinner. The IFMA Carolinas’ Chapters presented three awards this year. Dallas Schwerin, the current President of the Charlotte Chapter, was awarded the Young Member of the Year award. Dallas has been a force in the Charlotte Chapter and his passion for the Charlotte Chapter and the industry is unmatched. Danny Havens from the Upstate South Carolina Chapter was awarded the Associate Member of the Year Award for his selfless dedication to both the industry and his clients. Danny reminded the Associate Members in the audience that the benefits of being an active member far outweigh the commitment of time and money. And finally, Justin Barber from the Greater Triangle Chapter was awarded FM Professional of the Year. Justin is the current President of the Triangle Chapter and was recognized for his leadership within the Chapter and his company and for ensuring that his chapter vision of “We Are Family” is continuously demonstrated through every Greater Triangle event.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and speakers, and congratulations to Dallas, Danny and Justin.  We’ll see you next year!

  2020 WORLD FM DAY
IFMA National is asking our Chapter to help celebrate 2020 World FM Day on May 13, 2020- virtually! These are challenging times, and while social distancing is in effect, we would encourage you to use virtual visual conferencing and capture photos of your screens to share.  They would also love to receive photos or videos of you and your colleagues as you continue to serve as Essential Employees.

It is so important for us to share with the world the important work FMs do every day and in these days of global crisis. Our Chapter can help us continue to elevate the profession worldwide by sharing images that best reflect the FM profession. This year’s theme is Celebrating the Environment, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, IFMA would appreciate seeing how FMs support the environment both at work and away from work.

You can share photos by simply attaching them to an email with the subject and individuals included and sending to IFMA’s social media and communications specialist Katherine Sproles.

Also to make it easy for you to submit videos that IFMA can share to celebrate and promote the FM industry online and in social media, they have provided a link to use a new, user-friendly video platform. The application will walk you step-by-step through the process and help you record a great-looking video in minimal time with minimal effort. You can also use the platform to simply upload an existing video if you already have one created.
