Save-the-Date: AdvancED Georgia Conference

The AdvancED Georgia Annual Fall Conference, to be held November 4-5, is fast approaching.  Our office staff and council members currently are engaged in the planning phase.  We have confirmed two of the keynote speakers – Mark Elgart, AdvancED President and CEO, and Kimberly Bearden, Ron Clark Academy Executive Director and Language Arts Teacher.  In addition, sessions will be offered to assist schools and school systems in preparing for External Reviews.  Of course, sessions from practitioners that relate to best practices and continuous improvement will be a part of the program.  A link for registration will be available late spring at www.advanc-ed.org/conferences or from the Professional Development Calendar on the AdvancED Georgia Web pageIf you would like to register prior to the listing, simply contact Karen Jordan at 770.429.0040 or kjordan@advanc-ed.org.

School and District Visits in Georgia

For the 2012-2013 school year, we are conducting 84 External Reviews in Georgia.  By June 2013, we will have hosted 54 school level reviews and 30 school system level reviews.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank our team members and Lead Evaluators for participating in these External Reviews.  The donation of your time and professional expertise is greatly appreciated by our office.  During the 2013-2014 school year, we have 111 reviews scheduled; 74 school level reviews and 37 school system reviews. 

Join an External Review Team

Do you want a Real Time Learning and Real Time Impact experience?  If so, join educators from around the world that rate their service on an External Review Team as one of the most powerful professional development experiences in their careers.  We invite you to engage in "real time learning and make a real time impact" by serving on an External Review Team.  Past team members have found the experience to be both rewarding and inspiring.  There are several schools in need of team members for upcoming External Reviews, so please consider volunteering.  Please contact Karen Jordan at kjordan@advanc-ed.org for more information.

Did You Know? 

All Accreditation Resources and Tools are in one, convenient location. These resources only are available to institutions involved in AdvancED Accreditation. Many of the tools and resources have been updated and new ones have been added.  You can access specialized information for schools, school systems, ASSIST users and External Review Team members.  Because these resources have been placed in a repository created only for schools and school systems involved in the accreditation process, your principal, head of school or superintendent will have details on locating these resources and tools or you can can contact our office for assistance.

Excellence in Education

The Georgia AdvancED office is seeking nominations for the 2013-2014 Georgia Excellence in Education Award. This prestigious award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in promoting education in Georgia. Nominees can include teachers, administrators, school board members, higher education personnel, and community members.

To nominate, please send a letter of nomination that includes the nominee’s professional background,  a description of his/her contributions and accomplishments in education, and  any activities related to AdvancED. Letters should be sent to the attention of AdvancED Georgia Associate Director Jay Wansley at jwansley@advanc-ed.org

Call for Conference Presenters

If you have a creative idea, a hot education topic or a best practice, and would like to lead a small group session during the AdvancED Georgia 2013 conference, we would like to hear from you!  The conference will be November 4-5 at the Marietta Hilton Conference Center located at 500 Powder Springs Street in Marietta.  Please contact Danielle Strickland at dstrickland@advanc-ed.org if you are interested in submitting a brief synopsis.

Click on your institution name, then click on the Profile tab which contains the link to the Demographics Update application. If you have not logged into the website before or if you need assistance, please contact our office.

AdvancED Standards

AdvancED is pleased to announce that the AdvancED Standards for Quality Digital Learning Institutions were approved on October 30 by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission.  The new digital learning protocol will allow AdvancED to review educational quality using professional practice of digital education with our institutions that specialize in a digital education model.  The AdvancED Standards for Quality Digital Learning Institutions will be implemented for use with our schools beginning in July 2013.  In addition to the Digital Learning Standards, AdvancED also has the following institution standards:
  • AdvancED Standards for Quality Schools
  • AdvancED Standards for Quality School Systems
  • AdvancED Standards for Quality Corporations
  • AdvancED Standards for Quality Early Learning Schools
  • AdvancED Standards for Quality Education Service Agencies
AdvancED is currently developing AdvancED Standards for Special Purpose Schools.

Registration for the AdvancED Summit Opens 

Registration for the AdvancED International Summit 2013 is open. This year’s Summit, Measuring Learner Success in the Digital Age, will be held June 23-25 in Washington, D.C. The event will investigate how to process the true measurement of learner success beyond numbers or test scores on a spreadsheet. Attendees will:
  • Examine creative and forward-thinking education methods 
  • Develop connections with influential colleagues and decision makers 
  • Discuss current systems and strategies and learn new approaches and theories 
  • Participate in the leading educational event for innovation and advancement

Danielle Strickland Joins AdvancED Georgia

Danielle Strickland recently has joined the AdvancED Georgia Office as an Administrative Assistant.  Danielle comes to AdvancED from Best Buy where she served as an Operations and Services Supervisor.  She will be utilizing her technical and administrative skills to help support the accreditation process for schools and school systems as well as the overall operations of the office.  Please welcome Danielle to the AdvancED team.
